Light Source for pinning cakes?
    #10993792 - 09/03/09 05:37 PM (15 years, 4 months ago)

When my cakes are ready to birth I know they need light, But at the moment, I have around 40 bucks to my name.

Is it alright to just move the tank outside, in a screened in porch and open the lid?

Please post some methods.

Thank you for your time,
ArtieFartie:mushroom2:``

Ive read good success with people taking there SG terrariums outside, Leave the lid on.
That is as long as the temps are favorable

As for the $40 you can go and get a light for a fraction of that.

I live in central florida, temps are around 90ish.
Should I put it in direct sunlight? or in the porch?

I would say no to that, But that's just me.

I would take $10 and go get a $7 clamp light with a $3 cfl,Its what I started out with. Worked great for my needs.

If you have the space (closet) go get a 4 foot shop light with 2 6500 Kelvin lights.
Cost should be under $25 and it will last you years.
Hope that helps

Screenporch is probably good but I would leave the cover on if it is transparent and make sure it is NOT in direct sunlight.  Indirect sunlight is what you want.  90F is probably a bit high for fruiting but a lot of cubes will not mind.

I would keep it inside and just place it in front of a window. The indirect light coming in the window should be fine. If you do take it outside, DO NOT take the top off, but I think 90 degrees is a little warm.
