Clone problems
    #10993622 - 09/03/09 04:57 PM (15 years, 4 months ago)

I have a clone Lc ive been using for 3-4 months successfully, the flushes and fruits were great and i got at least 4, if not 5 flushes out of every mono.
Now for some reason,my last 3-4 mono's have had shitty flushes and they are all mutants (tiny and mutated).

This clone was made by introducing a piece of tissue to a wbs jar in a glove box.

All my conditions are the exact same as before, i have a master LC so it cant be degenerating can it?

What are some things that would cause this?

Is your LC master being stored in the fridge?

It sounds a lot like virus.  You never know with LC until you use it.  I've also never had luck with long-term storage using LC.  Plain distilled water will preserve mycelium for years, but a nutrient solution doesn't seem to hold up as well.  I'd suggest master slants for storage.  Inoculate some petri dishes for each cycle, and then use those to inoculate your grains.

Really? ! ? !

So do you recommend a Grain LC specifically for LONG term storage inside a refrigerator?

I always like to keep spore prints as a last resort backup, but I’m in the habit of using LCs for inoculations. It wouldn't be too much to ask to donate at least one grain jar for grain LC.

I never knew that virus could infect fungus, im gonna research that a little.

I may just start using grain LC, i know slants are the best but i dont have a flow hood and it just seems like an awful lot to go through trying to do all that in a glove box.

thanks RR
