Check my Tek (wbs)

ok i read a few teks and came up with my own..
I found that its easyier to measure after the first rinse.
STEP 1 Rinse the seed in a large bowl pulling off most of the floaters. Some say you dont have to do this, but millet is smaller and provides more inoculation points later on, so i like as much millet as possible.
Step 2 Measure Seed so that it fills the jar just about half way keeping in mind that the seed expands 20-30% Half full to jars start will leave room for expanding and shaking.
Step 3 With seed still in jar at measured amount, fill the jar with water and close the lid
Step 4 soak for 12 hours Shake it up every once in a while (before bed)
Step 5 Rinse seed again
Step 6 Simmer seed for 10 - 20 min in large pot making sure that seed is covered with water and stirring to prevent see popping.
Step 7 Rinse again
Step 8 Load jars and put on a lid with filter medium of your choice
Cover the jars with dual coffee filters and string
Step 9 PC for 60+ min at 15 pounds
Let cool in PC
Step 10
remove cooled jars from PC Shake jars inoculate
Did i do that right?? first time

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

Why measure the grain into jars twice? Soak it in the cook pot.

that was because i wated to measure before i soaked and then i figured i could just soak in the jars..
thats is a trivial detail.. just wanted to make sure the overall tek is sound

i see a few details that need work, have you done this yet or are you about to do this? I would put all my WBS in a large pan/bowl/bucket and fill up with water to about 3-4" over the seed level. Maybe even brew a strong pot of coffee and pour that in with it. If you want. Then let that soak for about 24 hours. Then pour the seed through a strainer, rinse the wbs off in the strainer until the water is clear. Do this to all the wbs. Then put the seed in a pot and fill with water. You may have to do this 1 pot at a time, depending on how much wbs your using and how many pots you have. When you fill the pot w/ wbs and water, put that on the stove and heat up to medium or med-high setting. Don't boil the WBS. You want a little steam riseing off the water, but no boiling. If it starts to boil, take it off the burner for a second and stir it pretty good. When you've done this for about 20 minutes you can check to see if the seed has soaked up some water. Then you should clean the seed in the strainer again with cold water. Once you've done this you can start filling jars and PCing them. I'd use priority envelopes from the post office/tyvek. Not coffee filters. Have fun, it's a fun hobby

you don't need to be redundant here. use a good filter for your jar lids --actually you don't need a lid with a good filter like polypropylene, only the filter and the band to keep it on the jar--if you use plastic lids you can drill holes in them for gas exchange, and/or inoculation holes and put your poly filter under that and screw it onto your jar, then cover with foil to keep out excess water which will be coming down from above in the PC. i use poly filters with metal bands only, or the plastic lids with filter material as described already. works well and my contamination is almost nil.

step 4 is good. when you soak past 18 hrs the seed stinks to high hell, and when you pressure cook it your house is going to stink like shit. no need to keep shaking though
step 7. rinse again with extremely hot water. the water evaporates off the seed faster that way. You dont want too much extra moisture in your jars when you go to pc. Let them sit and strain for 15 -20 minutes before you start to load it into jars again.
step 8. I punch two nail size holes in my lids and cover with a piece of micropore tape. To each his own, I'm just saying lids dont have to be so elaborate.
step 9. I'd say at least 70 min @ 15 psi. You definitelly have a good understanding of the process. You will fine tune it with practice. Good luck.
