Soak the grain extra to make sure all endospores germinate

You can also pre preasurecook the grain, the put it in to jars and boil.. that should work (damn im smart sometimes)

:pm: me if you have questions about lasers

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

Just lay the jar sideways. Or use smaller jars.

no the preasurecooker is used for grains specificaly because it does a nice job of killing spores IN the grain.

so if he PCs the grain in jars that will fit, and then tosses it in to jars he wants to use, he can then boil the grain to make sure that there was no contam picked up (on outside if grains) between PC jars and final jars.

if he transfers them hot, i would not even worry about the second boil

It's not the lamest idea I've ever heard. Do it in a glovebox. It's basically a virgin grain to grain.
I'm betting on 100% fail, but hey- prove me wrong.

Let me get this straight, PC pint jars of grain, boil empty quarts covered with foil. Move the quarts and pints to glove box and let them cool, then unfoil the quarts and pour grain from the pints in?

Sounds like an OK plan to me, but I'd just do the spawn in the pints at that point. Gonna cost you more in jars than a decent PC will.

You could look in to spawn bags. Put one bag in your small PC and let 'er cook, then inoculate. That's putting all your eggs in one basket, but that's what you want, right?

Oh, bags are a good idea. Then he could use pints and do g2g with the bags. That'll work.

Since I'm still confused on all this boiling talk, let me break it down a little.

Water boils at 99.97*C at normal atmospheric pressure.
Water in a pressure cooker gets to ABOUT 135*C at 15PSI.
That extra 40*C is what kills of bacterial endospores, and boiling water will never get that hot without pressure added.

yeah ive looked into them i can order them but then i find these reusable jars for 8 dollard the 12 pack across the street, and but no i was going to PC in pint jars, transfer them to quarts and then boil with the grain inside for bout an hour. i was goint to inject a pf cake with sterilized water and extract it again to absorb the myc and suck it right back up.

No need to 're-boil' the grains. They're either contaminated or they're not after the transfer. Boiling isn't gonna fix it either way.

Trying to get myc out of a PF jar is going to be hell, I would not try it at all.
