Anyone else have trouble cultivating in the summertime?
    #10991903 - 09/03/09 10:55 AM (15 years, 4 months ago)

I started cultivating last October, and throughout the winter and into the springtime I rarely had problems with contaminations, slow growth and so on.  In fact, the best results I had were when grow room temps were quite low (low to mid 60's).  I started a project in early June, when temps in the grow room were regularly 79-87 degrees, and since I have had nothing but failure.  Dozens of pint jars contaminated.  The few jars that didn't appear to be contaminated I spawned to small tubs which contaminated before even completing the spawn run.

On a side note, the only fruit I got the whole summer was a totally neglected tub I used to prepare coir.  I used a tub to mix all the coir ingredients together and in the process of making smaller tubs I dropped a small bit of spawn into the big mixing one.  When I was done, through my laziness, I simply left the large tub sitting around with the leftover coir and bits of spawn.  I didn't even know the spawn was in it, and when I went to actually clean up I saw some white in the tub, so I decided to wait and see what happened.  About a week later I saw a few small fruits in it.

I didn't once open the tub to spray or give fresh air or anything.  Neglected to all hell, and yet, it fruited.  Then, with all my attempts at doing things the right way, I had nothing but failure.  It was cool to get those fruits that way, but frustrating to fail where I tried.

I have to say it has been a very disappointing summer.  I remember all winter I was worried about the cooler temps and I couldn't wait till the warmth of summer.  I see that I was completely wrong.

I am using the same techniques I always have, though I know they are not the best ways, they certainly gave me the results I was looking for throughout winter and spring.

So, long story short, I am just curious if anyone else has had trouble cultivating during the summer months.  If so, it would be helpful to have a brief description of your experience.

Those temps are pretty warm, also summer tends to be 'allergy season' because there is more shit in the air floating around. All of which is landing in you tubs. Sorry to hear that it didn't go well, better luck in the winter?

I'm definately aware that there is a lot of stuff in the air and that those temps are real high.  I'm just curious if anyone else had enountered similar problems.  And thanks, I sure hope so.  I'm going to change some of the ways do things, too.  I'd love to have a flowhood.

Building my second flow hood this weekend. Woo!

Yeah, I have very few problems cultivating, but I did get some trich this summer in one jar and had a freak outbreak of trich on some petri dishes that I was working with.
