Help with spores...

Hey guys I just ordered some Psilocybe cubenis: burma spores from sporeworks. I ordered 2 single spore kits. I received the spores, and it doesn't tell me the CC size or anything. Not sure if the syringes are even in cc's, but the numbers go up to 10, so any idea if they are 10cc syringes? Also I only see like 2 spores in each syringe, so does that mean I can only inoculate 2 jars? Sorry for the newb questions.

Right, 10 mL. Spores are microscopic, there's thousands in there, SporeWorks packs them in. Shoot w/ confidence.

You can only see clusters of spores containing 10,000 or more or they arent visible to the naked eye. Curious as to where you purchased syringes?
edit: its early an i suck at reading
shake the shit out of the syringe and it should be good for 10 or so jars if you use it wisley.

Ok great, I read to use about 1cc per jar. Also should I shake the syringe to mix up the spores ? Also, I'm going to be using the PF Tek method for growing these burma spores. I have bought Verm & Brown Rice Flour ( Bought the rice, and grinded it in a coffee grinder) would this be sufficient for this strain?

I used a tad over 1 cc per jar u just dont want to much otherwise your water ratio will b off.
Yes shake your syringe to break the spores up.
and yes you flour will work.

Nice, thanks a lot for the quick responses. This will be my 2nd attempt at growing cubenis. I did it last time, but used 1 pint jars, and couldn't get them to colonize. This time around I'm a little more prepared, 1/2 pint jars, verm & brown rice. Did a lot of research watched a lot of videos on www.mushroomvideos.com so I'm hoping this process goes a lot smoother this time around.

Ok 1 more question, after you put top off the jars with verm and close them off, I see people put tape on top of the jars to close off the holes. When I was watching the video, the tape was still on top of the jars, and he inoculated through the tape. Is this a good procedure or should I remove the tape then inoculate? Also after inoculation anyone recommend a good place to store the jars, should the be out of sunlight? I know to keep them between 75-80 degrees.

I shot them up through the tape, then after I had them like 50% colonized I took off the tape for more air circulation.
I think rr said them being in a dark area was just a myth but I just threw mine in a my movie cabinet, it stayed around 80.

Cool thanks a lot for the responses. One last question before I go inoculate my jars. They show in the RR videos that he uses a glove box to inoculate the jars, guessing he is using that to keep bacteria to a minimum. Do you guys feel this is necessary to make a glove box to inoculate? If not, anyone recommend a way to inoculate in a clean environment like spray lysol or something lol.

Not neccessary at all. Do this and you won't be sorry.
Edit: Look at Injecting Spores in the TEK.

Not really a myth, just an old misconception from the old school cultivators.
I leave mine on a shelf near my well lit fruiting chamber and they colonize just fine

do it some where without carpet spray everything down that is around the area u are going to work.
Glove box I do recomend, because it decreases the amount of movement in the air.
But my first time I didnt use one and it worked fine

Moonshine, in your guild it says "Tape can be taken off the holes when colonization reaches 60-70%. At this time the jars should be flipped upside down until they finish colonizing." Do you feel this is an important step I should not forget?

In my opinion the less you handle a jar, the better. That dry verm layer loves to shift around.

i'm making a batch of jars right now and i plan to keep micropore over the holes this time around. i have never lost a jar to mold or bacteria but i just lost 8 jars to gnats.. i was disgusted to find maggots in 2 of my jars and a gnat fuckin around in my dry verm layer. i thought i was tripping but then the fucker flew out of one of the inoculation holes. i practice very very sterile procedures and was very discouraged to lose the jars to a fuckin' gnat layin eggs in my shit.. needless to say i threw out all associated jars and now will leave the tape on from now on

Flipping the jars seems to help me a lot. You take the tape off if the growth is stalling, also. Some people don't tape their holes at all.... My TEK will yield good results if followed exactly.
