That's exactly what I needed to know.
One last question though: I inoculated the jars through the holes which were covered with mikropore-tape. The tape is still on the jars (with the holes in them). Should I remove the tape completely, just let it on there or maybe put new tape on, so the holes are covered? I read loads of different opinions on this one too...
All the best O.
remove tape with holes and replace with new strips of micropore surgical tape.

Micropore tape breathes, so you can just leave it there with the wound from your syringe. If you were working without a dry vermiculite filter, you'd want to lay a fresh piece of micropore tape over the wound after inoculation, but if you have the verm filter, just leave it alone.
Colonize jars on an open shelf at normal room temp and normal ambient room day/night lighting. Mushroom mycelium should not be exposed to 24/7 light. RR

shangrila said: you know what with popcorn i lost 2 jars overall, tried wbs lost em all to worms and grass growth ( weird huh ) now RR's coffee rye tek and have a 33% success rate, sure popcorn isnt popular cause it has less spawn points when you turn to bulk but god do they move fast cause of less surface area for your mycelium to cover, doesnt smell, 45 mins in pc with a 30 minute low simmer, hey i didnt even have tyvek at that time all i used was one coffee filter and loose piece of foil. And the way i see it, less time for mycelium to overtake the corn, less time for competitors to take over like mold, on rye lost jars cause mold moved faster than the spores did.
but im done with that now, unfortunatley too busy in the near future, but i do still love coming onto this site though. oh yeah popcorn spawns to straw like crazy and works very well with cow composte/verm in oven pasteurization tek.
good to know plan to use all with hpoo

Man, I read many years ago about cutting up hepa filter bags for a vac cleaner. Just trace the lid disk onto the bags and the cut them out. It has worked to the point I have been able to relax on sterilizing the planet. This is a great cheap method that filters the air and allows for gas exchange. I never even bother with foil over the jars. Jut the original lids top with invert disk along with the cut out filter disk. You can get these at any Wal mart and can make many, many filter disk from one bag. Just a little tip for ya. Tried and true. I swear it works.

Sorry. The double post is due to me using a G1 phone to stay in touch with the forums most of the time. The Hepa bags used for vac cleaners contains a layer of tyvek. Plus three layers of fiber filter of unknown type. But I have never, and I mean never had anything get through these in almost ten years of rye jay usage. I think that speaks for itself.

No. I have made it a point to get the hepa bags. I KNOW THEY ARE NOT TRUE HEPA. They are very good bags advrtised as hepa. But they are just bags with a tyvek layer and some sort of finer material for the bag itslef. I am not sure what its made from. But I swear they work. I will post some grow pucs when the DSL. Provider gets my internet up agaon on Monday. But for now I have to use my phone. Effective, but can not load pics to this site from it for some reason.
