Taking Woodstock: The Worst Movie Ever?
    #10989733 -

I watched Taking Woodstock yesterday night, and it was fucking aweful. I would describe it as the Jewish Hippie version of Brokeback Mountain.

Before I go any further, I would like to preface this by saying the following things:

1.) Male nudity does not disgust me. I am not homophobic and seeing a penis doesn't make me cringe and act grossed out in order to assure people that I am not gay.

2.) I have absolutely nothing against gays. I'm for gay rights, gay marriage and all that. Gay PDA is something I'm not a fan of, but I don't really like watching straight couples go at it right in front of me either.

3.) I don't have anything against Jews. Several of my friends are jewish.

With that said...

Everything about this movie was bad. It showed more penises than any non-porno I have ever seen. While there was female nudity, there were more dicks that breasts if you count each breast separately and there was only bush, no actual vag shots. The male nudity was completely unnecessary. Example: The main character is walking through a random part of the festival and a naked guy runs by and starts climbing a fence.

Male nudity aside, there was a transvestite security guard who was not only completely wierd, but also pulled up his/her dress to reveal the clear outline of a cock beneath panties (once again completely unnecessary; dick for the sake of showing dick).

Half the story involved the main character being gay. He gets kissed by a dude in his father's bar area and then comes out of the closet on the spot and just goes right back at the guy. He later sleeps with the same dude (who has gay sex the same day the come out of the closet?). He also has a threesome with the couple that gives him acid. He has a rough comeup and the male of the couple begins rubbing his chest and sliding his foot up and down the main character's leg. They eventually end up with the main character in doggy style position naked (luckily he was covered) while the other male lays on top of him and seems to give him a rimjob (it looked that way, but may have been unintentional...I was pretty high).

His mother is the complete stereotype of a Jew. The family owes 5 grand on their mortgage and she goes on some rant about pogroms when the banker tries to take their property (he seemed nice and was trying to help them). It is later discovered that despite their debt, poor conditions of living and the fact that their son is working like a slave to try to save their motel, the mother has hidden $97,000 under her bedroom floorboards. When they approach her, she screams at them and yells something like "MY MONEY!!!!" Not only is this pretty racist, but its just fucking unnecessary and annoying.

The portrayal of the hippies was stereotypical and annoying. All they did was look at each other awkwardly and say stupid shit that was supposed to be funny like "Far out maaaannn!" and "Radical idea" and my favorite "Groovy!"

Finally, the portrayal of drugs sucked. The main character smokes one rather small joint between two people and he is taking little pussy hits and then he goes on T.V. and acts like a complete idiot. The acid scene had its moments, but was very disappointing. The colors and morphing going on in the van were cool although the "color brightening" effects were highly exagerated. Then they added the wierd threesome into the acid scene. The scene only saved itself with the awesome visuals of the crowd morphing into a single flowing sea and the stage becoming a bright light radiating visual sound. The whole acid scene was like five minutes total out of a two hour movie and it was the only interesting part.

Overall, it was a complete waste of my time and my $10.50. I'm so glad that I didn't trip at this movie. I would have had more fun just reading the actual story on the internet or just watching a five minute video simulating acid visuals. Fucking terrible movie, don't see it.

Just by the commercials I deducted that I would hate the movie.

Cheesy MTV-like movie, haha drugs are funny etc.

No thanks.

I could write a paragraph about how stupid this movie is without even seeing it, and the fact that you didn't like it while high says a lot, that's almost impossible.

Actually funny thing about Movies, Marijuana and Me (MMM) this summer is that I have actually hated three movies I've seen this summer while I was baked.

I walked out of Star Trek. I know nothing about Star Trek and the background knowledge required to get the movie just made it suck. Even the wierd elf people and dudes yelling about Klingons wasn't funny because it was just so lame.

Land of the Lost sucked. I thought it would be trippy and hilarious (when high) and I ended up leaving.

Taking Woodstock: See above.

Land of the Lost wasn't great, but it was entertaining,

different tastes

That's interesting that they make the whole "gay" part a huge aspect of the movie, why would they do that? The director seems like an idiot as well, I saw him do an interview with Jon Stewart, was the fucking guy even at Woodstock?

I didn't give Star Trek a chance. My idiot friend got antsy because he hated it and I didn't really enjoy it up to that point so I left with him. Land of the Lose on the other hand wasn't good at all. It seemed like a teletubbies movie for small children where Will Farrel was that wierd pedophilic host that they have on all those shows.

Its funny, I'm actually much more critical of movies when I'm baked. Its like everything thats good is better, but everything that is bad becomes worse. Or maybe its just that I choose better movies when I'm sober?

By the way, I like the new avatar pfxtc.

I like this quote:

It turns the fabled music festival, a key cultural moment of the late 20th century, into an exceedingly lame, heavily clichéd, thumb-sucking bore. There are two main problems with "Taking Woodstock." One is the central nonperformance by the stand-up comedian Demetri Martin, who is pretty much an emotional black hole as Elliot...the movie doesn't make much of an issue of the character's gayness -- which is utterly untrue to the period, 1969, even in enlightened circles.

I'm not critical at all with movies, but there's certain things I can't stand. Almost 90% of movies I'll enjoy, but if something about them just annoys me, I'll get up and leave. I'm weird about movies and can have a strange sense of humor.

Yeah the movie was terrible, aside from the penii the whole story was just a jumble of irrelevant bullshit that took up the large amounts of time in between anything plot advancing.  The only good thing I can say about it was that the acid animation was actually pretty solid... but not worth suffering through the rest to get there.

And I was also baked, it was sad :frown:

A funny note about my Taking Woodstock experience was that I saw it at 10:45 on Tuesday night, so there was literally nobody in the theatre, but me and three buddies. Its very fun to have a theatre to yourself when you're high. We made fun of the actors, we put our hands in front of the projectors like elementary school kids, we cracked jokes the whole time, talked on cell phones, ect.

Haha, last movie I saw baked was Pineapple Express, with a girl and a friend, I don't think I've ever laughed that hard in my life, and the movie wasn't even that good.

And the theater was packed, but I was fucking howling.

They have that. Its called rent a whole season of a T.V. show. I watched Dexter seasons 1-3 in like a week and I did them all in 4-8 hour sessions from when I got home at night to whenever I fell asleep. It was fucking awesome, I completely recommend the general idea of watching seasons at a time and I recommend Dexter as a show, its very original, clever and just fucking awesome.

I agree. I think I might start a business that airs TV shows (entire seasons) in theatres. You get a 15-30 minute break after every 4th episode and you spend the entire day in the theatre. It would actually be far more lucrative than selling movies because people wouldn't really have time to leave the theatre for food and drinks and you can't sneak 12 hours worth of munchies into a theatre so people would have to buy food. Plus you could charge like 40 bucks a person.

Yeah I remember doing that with Lost, it really adds a whole new element to it for some reason - but it would be cool in a big movie theater, lol.

That's a fucking great idea, it would be a challenge to get the rights to be able to show them though, but I would totally go see that.

Actually, the publicity from having your show in a theatre would almost make them pay me to play their stuff. If you see season three of Dexter in theatres, you'll probably convince yourself to buy the Showtime channel just to see season four as it airs.

That's a good point as well, but then you have the issue of nobody having enough time to actually sit and watch something like that, a day is a lot of time for some people - but I'm overthinking it, hehe.

Yeah true. Like a good friend of mine always says, you have ideas that come from your reality (stoner/tripper point of view) and you have to translate them to regular reality before you act on them. I might find the idea of smoking a fatty and watching a whole season of [insert show] to be awesome, but a normal person might not find the idea of sitting in a theatre all day very appealing. Who knows, a poll is in order.
