Using potato broth in BRF cakes
    #10973044 - 08/31/09 04:52 PM (11 years, 9 months ago)

I tried searching a bit, but I couldn't find the info to satisfy my curiosity. People in the past have had my same question unanswered, or attempted the experiment with too many variables (pressure cooker issues, etc.).

The question:
Rather than mixing water with vermiculite and brown rice flower, what would be the result of using potato broth instead of straight water? In another post I read that the resulting mixture was too sticky, and the ratio had to be altered to give a fluffier texture.

With the use of potato broth, how well will the mycelium colonize the cake? Will it be more prone to contamination during colonization? Will it be prone to contamination after having been birthed, possibly due to uncolonized potato matter? Will the rate of colonization be affected? Assuming that there is no contamination, I would think the yield would increase due to increased nutrients.

If anyone has any experience with this, or similar, what was the outcome? Does anyone have any predictions? I'm looking for info from someone with previous experience, as to not waste any time and materials.

This thread was moved from Advanced Mycology.

Reason:
Off topic in advanced mycology.

Give it a try and let us know how it goes.  I don't see that it could hurt, and might be a benefit.  There's only one way to find out.

Actually, that reminds me of a drink I've bought a few times in the past: Rice Dream

Ingredients:
filtered water, organic brown rice (partially milled), organic expeller pressed safflower and/or canola oil, tricalcium phosphate, sea salt, vitamin A palmitate, vitamin D2, vitamin B12.
