Alan, wouldn't you expect to see a lot of bruising on specimens that are this mangled?  If I strain it looks like a can see a bit on the mycelium but I thought it was just my eyes playing tricks on me.

Anyways, listen to Alan, not me.  He knows what he's talking about.

I would TOTALLY post them but I frustratedly threw them both out with those supposed non weilii / potential weilii on saturday evening.

however, that same spot had 1 more smallish cluster this morning so I'll try and give them a look tomorrow afternoon and take and post a spore print if they're still there.

I've been slacking on this forum a little, but congrats to all those who have hit the jackpot! I've had very little luck so far this season. My best goes out to all those who are faithfully tracking down these weilii beauties.

Rats.  Thanks anyhow!

I know how you feel.  The business park thing kind of freaks me out; too many people around.  I try to tell myself that I am not doing anything wrong but there are cameras everywhere.:paranoid:

I am having a great time hunting edibles though!

Got some light rain last night, and it's very humid out here this morning. Its still kinda drizzling, but the rain is pretty much over. I'll be going out tonight to a few spots. I'll post if I have any findings.

ok, I found these in same 'lake irrigated' office park in Gwinnett that I found the last 'perhaps weilii' in last friday... only instead of these being soaking wet and waterlogged, these ones are dusty, dry as hell little bastards.

these were found growing in pinestraw, (and under the pinestraw were wood chips of unknown origin and some red clay.)

these are so bone dry I don't think a spore print is going to be happening and there isn't really any bluing that I can see either. any thoughts on these?

I didnt think the last ones you posted were weilii either but i couldnt tell because they were water logged and old but now i can tell you for sure that they are not weilii. No bruising, stems too hollow and white. Also look at the gills, very light. I bet this mushroom has a white spore print.

One piece of advice also, Weilii do not pop up in one day or over night. If you find one right after a rain it was already there, once they get to a certain maturity they can grow pretty fast with added moisture but its not like finding cubensis just after the rain they just dont grow that way. I always go after a good rain but if its been really dry you need a lot of rain not just a drizzle here and there. It also sucks how windy its been which cuts down on the humidity and dries out the ground much faster.

weiliiinmyyard have you ever tried to make up spawn of Weilii and move it outside?

Yes.
This year I have a tub of loblolly Grass clay dirt and natural spawn (just rhizo and colonized peices of pine/sweetgum)

Last year I made some decent spawn out of a mixture of things, which got contamed but then I cut up some cardboard sterilized it and laid it o. Top and it colonized clean. Then that to rgs went well and I sPread it in my yard

If you try it add cedar to your sub. I have reason to believe weilii myc is somewhat if not totally resistant to it's antimicrobial properties

They look a bit like psathyrella to me... I'm no expert, however, and it's nearly impossible to tell due to the state they're in.

gotcha, thanks for the advice, but this whole huge office park is soaking wet all the time bc they've got a number of man made ponds they pump from for irrigation almost constantly during the day and night so I don't think lack of moisture is the issue (in the spot I pulled these though, yes, it was crispy dry).

does shroomery netiquette dictate that I remove that post or would it potentially be helpful in identifying near lookalikes and I should just leave it?

and I have to say, that after having looked for well over and year and finding NOTHING, I love looking a little more every day. And my 13 year old dog is in excellent shape from all the walking!

it'll happen for me one day and if it doesn't then i've just spent a lot of time walking around in nature and you just can't beat that either.

You don't have to delete it.. in fact it will morethan likely help someone.

It's very refreshing to see such a positive attitude! There is so much more to our hobby than finding actives. Once you realise that you open yourself up to all the greatness that mushies have to offer. You will find them with this mindset.
