Too much patch work on a tub

I read a grow where a guy had pretty optimal conditions but his pinset wasn't too big. I know there are MANY factors in an uneven/weak pinset, but in this thread a conclusion was reached that he might have patch his casing too many times.
1) Is it possible to patch one too many times without seeming overboard?
2) Is 3 or even 2 times too much patching for a substrate with the beginning of uneven myc.?
I'm not talking a plentiful amount mycelium but more so as the casing is first getting sigs of myc

Can a heavy patching result in a weak pinset?

Depends on your sub depth. Light patching can help covering up exposed parts of your sub after heavy harvest.
