Here's something useful: Either follow the tek, or try something else and let us know if it works. Don't come here and ask if some random thing will work. Either try it yourself, or do it the way we say. We are happy to help, but you have to meet us halfway and cooperate.

Yeah, something useful would be awesome. The spell check is really useful!

I like to ride the colorful unicorn! Mine doesn't eat souls but saying what it eats would leave many without any apetite...
BRF is an incredibly nutritious substrate. More nutritious than any manure or compost. Those aren't even suited for jars. Please don't try to insult people just because they told you what you were going to do is in fact a bad idea, making you save time and money. Ego talk? Please man...

I'll offer an ego-less reply.
What is the point of this experiment?
Are you thinking compost will be better than brown rice flour and verm?
It will not.
Are you looking for a cheaper alternative?
Brown rice is pretty darn cheap, as is bird seed. Verm could be subbed out for a few different things, maybe you can get some free sawdust or something. But it has been shown to be inferior to verm. And since you're already planning on buying verm for the dry layer, why not just use it?
Are you looking for something to use your compost for?
Inoculate bird seed and spawn it to your compost as a bulk substrate. Probably should mix it with some more traditional bulk sub ingredients tho to reduce chance of contam.
There you have it.
