Will these speed up the colonization process?

Insert a few agar slices into a quart of WBS and shake very vigorously. Or will this slow down the process? I'll actually know the answer in a couple days but obviously i'm impatient.

the more inoculation points, the faster things will go.  So to answer your question, if the pieces break up, sure it will.

I've found over the years it's better to drop an agar wedge on top of the jar of grains, allow the mycelium to spread into the top layer of rye or wbs, etc., for a few days, and then shake.  The colonized grains on top will then give hundreds of inoculation points and the jars should be fully colonized four or five days later.  Either way works, but I prefer the above.

sounds like doing it the first way would reduce the oxygen availability and increase the co2 for the myc, versus rogers method which would take advantage of there being the rest of the jar to fill with co2, and plenty of o2 at the top of the jar.  Guess you have your answer.
