congratulations on the finds and more importantly the insights! i remember when i was younger and had to rely on others to supply mushrooms, there was always a mild 'anxiety' about when the next time one might be able to eat them would be. once you know how to locate them yourselves, the 'jones' (not a great descriptor, but...) becomes acknowledgement of a secret gift, even if you have to wait another season, there is always the knowledge that you will find them again when you are ready. plus people should listen to and respect their mothers for the most part, so...good job!

dry those puppies out and save at least some for a rainy day, resisting the urge can be really rewarding when you least/most expect it

Move air over them. A fan works well, a few days under a fan, a few days in an open paper bag in the fridge will have them crispy and ready to last 12months or more.

here is from todays find.
i have a question when are the mushrooms more potent after they first sprout or is it better to let them wait and get bigger. beacuse in some of the smaller cubes i notice way way more blue then in the bigger ones.

From what I understand...
They are at the peak of their potency just before the veil breaks. Slightly after the veil breaks are pretty potent as well.
If you let them mature - you will have more weight but the weight will not be as potent per gram as it would before the veil breaks. This is mainly because the spores will have dropped already and there is more water weight in the more mature specimens.

for mushrooms that size i would recommend breaking the stipes off and cutting those in half lengthwise.
lay the caps down and cut those into slices 1/4" or less thick. air dry them in an open space so that air can move over them and carry moisture away. make sure they are spread out a bit and not all piled together.
this can take up a bunch of space for large fleshy mushrooms [and may i say, those are huge for cubes ].
when i visit family in oregon during mushroom season, i often have every available surface lined with news paper and covered in drying chantarelles, boletes, the odd Psilocybes, etc.

they are cubensis. leave the pins, don't trample or otherwise destroy the patties and you're solid.

heres the thing they don't grow out of patties.. there's no longer cows on this field so i think the soil is possibly enriched from the patties that at one point where there.

they don't always have to be intact patties. they eventually decompose, crumble, etc. and grass grows through them.

Pristine cubes! The mycelial network in that field is very strong. I wonder if bringing some sackfuls of pasturized manure to distribute on and around the areas you pick from would be a good idea... Take some more habitat pics, I love seeing them just grow out of tall grass. Try to wedge those scissors into a patch of dirt where u find the clusters and crack it open and look if you can see rhizomatic web like structures
