do you use a drying machine or air dry your mushrooms?

in selling mushrooms you should go to the best most expensive resturant you know or a health food store. whole foods would also take them, they will know the mushrooms.

I just noticed that there is extensive bruising around the edges of all the mushrooms I picked.  Is this normal?

Just from very briefly looking at the pictures that I found, it looks exactly like the black staining polypore.... Dang.

several sites claim it is edible, and at least one i just saw listed a recipe. it looks like you're not too out of luck [if you can get past that unattractive blackness ]

thats why its so important to get accurate colored pics. and not take someones word for it. which is my mistake. we all would have clearly seen that its very grey/white and not L. sulphurus colors.

Yeah, thats a real good point.  I need to make sure I am more careful with my pictures and identifications in general.  Thanks for helping me get to the real ID.

also to fully cook a mushroom that doesnt lay flat on the pan use a lid. this way it will cook all the way through.

have you eaten chicken of the woods before?

wondering how it tastes in comparison

Yeah, at least I *think* I've had a chicken before.  I'm hesitant now since I was so easily thought this was a chicken mushroom too.  I'm not sure if I should eat this what is most likely black staining polypore or not.  The flesh feels and smells exactly like the last chicken mushroom I found.

ive heard they are eatable and quite tasty. dont take my word for it. research it. when in doubt throw it out. but at least put it pores down in the woods somewhere nice so it can keep doing its thing.

Good suggestion, I'll take some out tomorrow.  btw, apparently "black-staining" doesn't just refer to the bruising... my fingers look like they're covered in charcoal or something.  It's hard to wash off too.
