No Bruise?
    #10963596 -

Very new to this growing business. I understand enough for a newbie and I have a fairly simple question.
--
Ahem.
---
So my cakes were fruiting like crazy the first dunk' n roll. And they bruised instantly after touching. We ate a couple and they were pretty good.
I dunked them a second time and expected them to go crazy a second time, but was horribly disappointed. They stopped growing for about a week and a half. Don't know why that happened (Maybe I dunked to early??)
Well, the cakes are coming back to life and are starting to fruit like they did the first time. Only problem is they are not bruising. At all. I tried really hard to bruise the damn thing, but nada.
So..I only assume that they have lost all potency. But could they be dangerous??? Contaminated? Or do you think they would just give me a stomach ache? Or what?
I'm going to eat them soon to see what happens but I wanted to check in with you guys first.

Don't ask me.
I just got here.

A little bruising is fine. Please tell me you didn't eat any vermiculite...:frown:

Are you eating fruits or cakes?

Your fruits should bruise. Try slicing a stem open with a knife and blow on it. It should start to turn blue, because of the oxidization of psilocin. What species are you growing?

You are wrong, psilocin is pretty stable, it is psilocybin that oxidizes. that 4-po group is what makes it unstable.

Did you mean the result where it says, "Psilocybin is not oxidized until it is dephosphorylated"? Or maybe "Psilocybin is a stable compound, while psilocin is easily oxidized but does not dissolve well in water"?  "Psilocin is 1.5 times more potent than psilocybin, but, because the latter oxidizes more slowly"?

hmm. interesting.
well, what I have is cubensis. I think the odd thing is that they bruised the first flush and didn't the second. But I guess I'll try em out tomorrow and see what happens.
Thanks for all the comments guys.
I'll let you know if they are duds.

see the thing about the web is we all can go to that sight, and see you're off your damn rocker, or outta you mind, whichever you prefer.
Quote:
·        The main type, Psilocybe genus, of mushrooms was found to contain the active ingredients of psilocybin and psilocin.
·        After examination a variety of four and five hydroxylated N-methyeltryptamines were isolated from the mushrooms.
·        The two compounds, psilocybin and psilocin, are equally psychoactive.  Colorless psilocybin can be rapidly oxidized to reveal a blue colored product, which is one of its most common field identification features.
Molecules

·        One molecule of psilocybin (O-phosphoryl-4-hydroxy-N) can be broken down into one molecule of psilocin (4-hydroxy-N, N-dimethyl-tryptamine).
·        Psilocybin is quickly dephosphorylated to its phosphate ester, psilocin, by alkaline phosphatase, an enzyme present both in the brush border of the intestines and in the liver.
·        This removes the phosphate group from psilocybin then leaving, psilocin to be passed along through the bloodstream.
