simmering millet

i'm trying to simmer my millet right now.
i know what simmer means, but not what it looks like. there are a few bubbles every once in a while (very spontaneous). am i doing it right?

i looked at a scoop in a ladle, and there are a lot of broken kernels. stupid me. back to square one.

My friend always just puts 2/3 Millet : 1/3 water into Pint jarsand PC's for 1 hour with great results. He finds that extra step of simmering not necessary.

you'll definatly wanna shake them while hot if not prehydrating. I prefer to soak overnight.
