Grain Jar to Homemade Mycobag (Pics)

I wanted to experiment with transferring grain from jars to balk substrate in a Mycobag, so i devised my own set up and thought I would share it with the fine people here at the shroomery. My intentions with doing what I've done is that I can colonize large amounts of substrate with grain and not have to worry about contams. Enjoy!
(Everything was done empty for demonstration purposes.)
Supplies you will need Oven Bags Jar lid and top zip ties Syringe Silicon sealant Nail Screw driver

Take the oven bag and Seal the open end with a lighter and or an iron. (I used an iron because it is much quicker.) Next take the screw cap of the desired sized mason jar and trace it with a sharpie about 3/4's of the way to the top of the bag. Cut out the hole and place the cap in the hole that you just made. Next take zip ties and zip tie the bag around the jar lid so that it holds tight. Now take the silicon and seal around the zip tie. Let sit over night to dry.

Now for the mason jar lid that will sit in the cap when pressure cooking and colonizing. Take your nail and hammer 4 holes, pf tek style. Next make a larger hole in the middle so that you can fit the back end of the syringe in it, silicon seal around it. The importance of this is so you have something to pull the lid out of the cap with.

Now fill the bag with the desired substrate, put aluminum foil over the lid and pressure cook it like a regular Mycobag. After it has cooled down, take it out of the PC and place it in your clove box, along with the colonized grain jar that will be dumped into the bag. Take the aluminum foil off of the bag, grab the back of the syringe and pull it out exposing the inside of the bag. Take your grain jar unscrew the lid and screw the jar into the jar lid that is attached to the Mycobag. Dump out all the grain into the bag and immediately put the jar lid back on the bag. Now take polyfill and place it all around the top of the lid around the back of the syringe also inside of the syringe if not already done. Now cover the whole lid with a piece of tyvek, mix up the substrate and grain and wait to fully colonize!!!

I took ideas from the homemade mycobag tek, lc tek, and the pf tek and kind of came up with this idea. Its also sweet because the lid can double as a place to inoculate with lc or spores. By placing the syringe needle through the holes I made for gas exchange.

So the lid just sits in the threaded ring? Doesn't fall out easy or anything?

Yeah it fits pretty well. Obviously You wouldn't want to turn it upside down or anything. Plus in the pc you put aluminum foil over it and then when you are done transferring the contents of the grain jar you put polyfill and a piece of tyvek over it so it stays pretty well.

If it does become and issue you can always put a piece of tape from the syringe butt to the edge of the lid, mycropore would do the trick and still allow for ventilation.

How long do you think it will take for a pint of wbs to colonize a brick of coir, using this setup? Should I do 2 pints? I don't believe I will have to worry about contams because it should act as a regular mycobag, I'm just wondering how long on average you think it will take?

Thought I would update with a picture of the bag I started 5 days ago using my tek. I did half a brick of coir, pint of spent coffee grounds, pint of gypsum, and a quart of colonized WBS. This is a picture of the bag its kicking ass, about 20-30 percent colonized and zero contam's so far...

Shoot me a pm if you would like a powerful custom laser built. 4th pic is a 1.3W 445nm laser burning thru some plastic makeup containers. Yes I was wearing proper safety goggles, otherwise I would be blind right now.

Thanks for the shrooms man I'm really hoping this works because then I wont have to colonize a shit ton of wbs to colonize a shit ton of substrate. My next objective is to decide what to do with it all. Also do you get more shrooms from one big monotube or from multiple trays? Also how important is depth? I mean would it make more sense to spread it out and cover more space but have shallow depth or cover less space with deep depth?
