would adding maybe a tespoon of calcium carbonate or something else also help the rice to be less sticky?

maybe adding some gypsum... i dunno how much.. but its supposed to help grains from sticking from each other... search for gypsum and you will probly find it... gypsum is cheap and easy to get....

The member who is doing the grow-log said he's trying both ways, but if you get enough water out of rice it won't be too sticky. That's the main reason you need to squeeze it.But when you put the rice in jars, there should be no standing water at the bottom, regardless.

well.. i like the idea on only using whole grain rice... when i find some containers for it.. im gonna see if i can use the rice steamer at home and steam me up some rice.... and if that is sucessful... im gonna try to use the rice steamer to sterilize... but i think the bottom of the steamer gets hot....

Thought I'd bring this thread back, seeing how I'm going to try this tek. Any updates on it? Anyone try it?

VSOPXO, could you please post a direct link to this growlog. i noticed below that some asked if there was one, and the answer was "yes" (i guess that was a response to this question) i am very interested in trying this. it seems that this method would produce much higher yields than the pf tek.
thanks.

The MycoRice Tek rocks. I give it 3 big goofy grins. If you get impatient- crumble the rice cakes into the blender, cover with OJ, frappe and enjoy. 1 half pint cake per 2 people.

Has anyone tried the rice steamer method of mosturuzing the grain in a rice steamer?, and the sterilzing via steam boiling, this would be a real simple way to go to grain

i have never worked with grain so if i sound like a dumb ass with these questions, sorry. i have a few jars going on now and if i wanted to start a new batch of jars and just use this tek. my question is has anyone tried this tek and if so:how do i steam the jars, how much head room would i need to allow for shaking? how much spore solution is recommended? and what are some measure to follow when inoculating as far as contamination is concerned? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Someone rate this man some shrooms!
The reason for cooking the rice is to get a suitable water content, that is why you dont need any vermiculite. And if you just cook the rice in the jars im willing to say you'll get about 50% contamination rate at the best.
Of course that is if you steam sterilize via boiling water. I am pretty sure that you can put soaked rice in the jars and pc them and get good results. But also it is then hard to get the right amount of water in. It is much easier just to cook them first.
