Will casing my grow bag help

I started with a with a rye/ compost filter patch bag inoculated w/ penis envy. I emptied the contents of the bag into a 20"x 9.5" plastic tray with clear dome lid that is 7" tall. The substrate is only a half inch to one inch deep. The mycelium is fully developed. I was thinking about casing it now with compost. Will that be benificial since the substrate is so thin. If so will microwaving the compost for 5-10 minutes make it applicable for casing. I read that somwhere.
