stealth camp

I am going to try to camp in a state park/forest for a week in mid to late september undetected. the park closes at sundown, and no camping aloud. state cops check every night. i've been hassled more than once. dumb idea? yeah, am i doing it anyway? you betchah, i only have 2 concerns, hunting season, and i'll be having a lot of mush, and green with me, so if i get pinched its more than some sort of trespass charge. i plan to park my vehicle at a friends house than pack in from there. it's all forest no streets or houses and only a few miles or so in. i want to make a base camp then day hike in a different direction each day, and get messed up at night. so what do you think? good ideas/suggestions and constructive criticism welcome

if it were me I'd bring all my camo gear, set up ur campsites at high altitudes where no one wants to hike and completely off trail and mark your location with a gps unit or something so when you wonder off after setting up you can find your way back... also only have small fires enough to cook food... how big of a wilderness is this? state cops will probably only check trailheads, and will only search if there are stray cars parked there....

yes i plan to hide my camp well, camo, fires- small and only at night, i made two penny stoves i'll use in day time. and i believe your correct about the cops. i don't have a gps but that is a good idea. the park is only about a dozen square miles or so.

Thats still large enough to get lost in. I'd be careful.

Stealth camping really isn't that difficult. I guess it's a bigger deal in some parts of the country. Hell I did it in Gatlinburg TN, and was only a half mile out of town.
Just don't be stupid, don't make a lot of racket, and if you encounter people do head back to your campsite. Also make sure to use 'Leave No Trace' practices.
Have fun

yeah, its definitely big enough to get lost in. i'm just worried about hunters, i think late september is bow, or black powder season so this should be fun. i will also be hunting, but i'll be useing snares and dead falls, as well as a fishing pole, i might even bring pellet gun to, just in case i can't snare anything

this is my little mess kit, its an old boy scout kit i believe, i filled a Dristan bottle with bleach to sanitize drinking water when boiling is not an option (8 drops per gallon)and let it sit for a half hour. hand sanitizer, i made a mixed spice jar with my favorite seasonings. reading in this forum i discovered the the penny stove, awesome little device, so i did alil research and i made 1 out of 12 oz heinekin cans, it burns for 35 minutes, and boils a quart of water in 6 minutes. then i made one out of fosters oil cans, it is wider so it works better when using a frying pan, (more even) it burns half the time on the same amount of fuel (50ml) of denatured alcohol, and no smoke at all

i found that little nipper bottles are perfect for 1 burn 50 mls. i filled up some to take with me

this is a hydration pack witch i'll be using on my day exploring,it has pockets and webbing to carry other stuff i'll need like my penny stove and lunch. and the back pack i got from ebay 20bucks + 12 shipping not bad its in perfect working order other than its a medium so i'll have ta rework it a little cuz i'm a big dude. i chose an external frame so i can easily ad stuff to it like my toiletry/first aid pack and mess kit pack.

okay, it's getting close, so i decided to make my water filter today, very simple, took like 5 minutes. i took a 2 foot piece of 2 inch electrical conduit, put polyfill in one end, caped it with a 2 inch PVC cap that i drilled a 1/4inch hole in, filled the conduit up with activated carbon to within 4 or 5 inches from the top, put more polyfill on top, and another cap, now when i go to use it, all i have to do is remove the cap without the hole, and pour stream, or pond water threw it, and then boil the water, and that's it, nice clean water. 2 foot may be abit overkill but better safe then sorry

sorry about the bad pics

i would just use a bandanna to filter the dirt if ur just gonna boil it anyway... definately overkill, but cool none the less
