Dumpster diving HUGE sterilite, TOO BIG?

so i was walking on campus today towards my car to go buy a sterilite from walmart. a huge dumpster was sitting there with a massive sterilite container in it. perfect condition but big! my question is, is it too big for a single mono tub? maybe i should use it for several grows or???
sterilite 1948 45 gal wheeled latched tote
36 1/2"L x 21" Wx 19 1/2"H BLUE
so at 4" depth thats 4 x 36.5 x 19 = 2774 cubic inches or about 48 quarts... at 4:1 thats about 38.5 substrate to 9.5 quarts spawn... that could be done with 3 wbs spawn bags and uhh 5 coir bricks or maybe 4 with lots of verm etc.
thats a lot of eggs in one basket. what does everyone think?
what else could i sue it for? i dont want to throw it away.

I use that as monotub. Works fine, but use lots of spawn because you don't want work that big going south.
EDIT: A little more info - I use monotubs that large and they are a blast to fruit, but hard work to prepare the bulk of course. Use lots of spawn. Another thing I do involves heavy duty black contractor trash bags. I've only found the heavy duty ones at Home Depot. Don't get anything that you can tear easily with your bare hands as it won't hold the 30-40lbs of wet substrate you will need it to. Anyways... I take a fresh trash bag and dump 4-6 qrts of spawn into it quickly, then "seal" it tight and break up the spawn really well in the bottom of the trash bag. Then I proceed to dump in my pasturized bulk substrate into the trash bag. About 5 or 6 gallons worth (packed, more like 10 gallons fluffed) and then I seal the bag again and toss the bag around mixing the spawn into the bulk. Then I carefully set the trashbag on the bottom of the big sterilite in the proper allignment. I then wash both my hands and arms up to my shoulder... then rub alch up to my shoulder and reach into into the bag to spread the bulk&spawn evenly... about 4" depth across. I then tuck the bag opening over and with a sterile knife cut some GE holes in the bag. Put on the lid. wait two weeks. fully colonized... wait another week. Cut of the top of the bag... case or don't case... then introduce fruiting conditions and wala

that sounds beautiful.
but thats like anywhere from 5:1.5 to 10:1 substrate to spawn ratio. isnt that a little too little spawn?
how often do you end up with contamination and what sort of yield do you get?

soiunds like a great method, alot of substrate = alot of mushrooms. they must get quite large too.
Ive always thought and recomended to wait a week before fruiting, but i dont think ive read of anyone doing it with bulk. I think most just go straight to fruiting once colinised, unless they apply a casing layer

I'll probably get some flame for this, and certainly don't recommend it, but I can say with certainty that I've had a 7 out of 10 success rate without contam with just 2 quarts spawn. I think it is just a testament to the effictiveness of the method. That being said 7 out of 10 success rate at this large of scale is highly inefficient and not worth the risk. If I were to do it again I would ramp up spawn ratio big time.

lets just say the yield is laughable

Drumjam.... Can u tell me what those grid shelves u show in those pics are. I've been looking for something exactly of that nature. They look like the "covers" to those big florescent light fixtures... Where can I get them? Thanks

That's exactly what they are.
Home improvement stores in the states, home Depot, Lowe, Ace hardware. Their easy to cut, just takes sometime. About ten bucks for a big piece.
This can happen too, look close, it's grown through the grid

I'd use at least 12 jars of spawn for something that big, with 8 it seems like you'll be spreading it a little thin.

I guess I will just use my other 2 smaller tubs then... I f I wait on the other jars to colonize I will put myself in a time crunch.

I mean, you could do it if you really wanted, but at 8 quarts with a 1:4 ratio, you're still talking only 3 inches ish.

rather be safe than sorry.... don't want to loose all my work to this point on a chance I don't have to take.. the smaller ones work good anyway.
