UGH!  This shit pisses me off.

I had to get a ride to a concert the other day from an ex girlfriend, who is --the worst-- driver I've ever met.  She kept texting while she was driving and damn near going in the ditch, then getting pissed at me when I grabbed the wheel to keep us from fucking dieing.  I almost choked her to death that day.

My province just went ahead and banned the use of cell phones when driving, for anyone. (not sure if the law is in effect yet)

Hands-free devices aren't banned.

Seems like it will cut down on their use! They did the same kind thing with seat belts when I was younger. Charge someone if they aren't wearing their seat belts while driving, and pretty soon we're all wearing the seat belts!

For the record, I agree 100% with the cell phone ban. I've almost been run over by people staring at their cell phone instead of the road more than once!

I'm not sure if I agree with it being illegal though I definitely think people need to put the damn things down when there is other traffic around :crankey:

I text while i drive all the time. I don't do it when other cars are around. I don't think it's any more dangerous than a thousand other things that can cause someone to get into a accident as long as they just pay the fuck attention to the road 1st and foremost. All that video showed me was 3 dumb bitches that would have most likely cause an accident turning on the radio, or lighting a cigarette. It's in my opinion that some people are just to stupid to make it through adulthood in one piece. I wouldn't blame texting, i would blame them for just being fucking idiots.

How does this make sense to you?

First and foremost attention to the road SPECIFICALLY MEANS NOT texting while driving.

I can't stand people who hold a phone and drive... talking is bad enough because your brain is somewhere else, and even if you are looking at the road, you may be impaired.

Texting while driving is ten times more idiotic.

It's only a matter of time until you crash into something... I hope it's a tree and not a human.

I deliver pizzas at night for 40 hours a week. The whole time im driving im texting. 9 years of working there and i have yet to even come close to being in an accedent. If it was illegal i would still do it. :shrug:

When I would text while driving (pre-ban) I would hold the phone up a bit so im not staring into my lap, and not type for more than a couple seconds at a time. I can also text without looking, so id type and then read it before sending.

Im afraid since it is now illegal, people will stare into their laps if texting, which is way worse.



but yeah, some people just don't know when to stop...

If I feel my phone vibrate (I never have it on ring) while I'm driving, I'll look to see if it's a text/call, and if it's a text I may or may not read it depending on the situation/who it's from but I rarely text back I usually just wait till I'm at my destination. If I read the text and it's something important I'll just call the person back instead of texting them as it's a faster way of communicating anyways.

This shit happens EVERY day.  In fact it happens several times per day.  Some in the rescue field have to face it daily in large cities.

It is a real and serious problem and I for one like to see the brutal side of reality being made available to the public..

They did a bit on that on the show Mythbusters.  Not that I hold that show to the utmost of scientific standards, but their conclusion was that texting was much more dangerous than driving drunk.
