Just picked first ever flush...help needed

My friend has just picked his first ever flush, and some of the casing layer was stuck to the stem of the shroom. So he cut it off and has begun drying them. Where he made the cut the stem and surrounding area has begun to turn a dark bluish colour, almost black. Is this normal? He hopes so it would be a shame to lose them after all this time to mould or contamination

i've never grown shrooms, been on shrooms, or found a psilocybin-containing mushroom in my life, but it seems all too obvious to even me that what you are describing is the natural "blueing" shrooms go through when damaged. i believe it's the psilocybin oxidixing, or something like that.

Like GonzoPunk said it's just bruising and nothing to worry about.

As a side note, you may notice bluing of the cakes, if you go the cake route, as the result of touching them even slightly, which is ok, I've had fine shrooms come right out of the bruised areas.

Remove it as quickly as possible. It should start turning blue, then black because it's rotting. Before you know it it becomes a foothold for contam to attack the mycelium stronghold.
EDIT: Always remove mushrooms by twisting at the stem.
