whats wrong with my casing
    #1091622 - 11/27/02 04:55 PM (21 years, 4 months ago)

i start my flush using the basic BRF and half pint jars. my casing is 18 days old and is a Pink Buffalo strain. the casing layer is about half an inch thick and is just vermiculite. ive keep the casing on top of my computer screen to keep the temps around 85-90 with no light entering the container. after 18 days of not seeing any progress i had to look under the casing layer and see if there had been any mycelium growth. well to my surprize the crumbled cakes have not grown at all throught the casing layer and the cakes are VERY soft to the touch (just had a little poke at it)
what the hell is going on??? any help would be greatly appricated

Is your casing layer dried out?

hhmmm, you shouldnt use your moniter to keep them warm.

the heat is obvioulsy concentrated on the bottom of the case......this could get pretty damn warm after a while.

also, the bottom of the case is probably slowly cooking/drying out. (people have had loads of problems with heating pf jars on heat pads)

Maybe you can salvage your crumbled cakes, dunk them, and then recase.
