good news with cake

birthed a contaminated cake early a few days ago and cut out the contam with a sterilyzed knife. Noticed there were some tiny bits of green on the sides and cauterized those with a torch. Then dunked the cake. It turned blue around the edges that were burnt. I put a piece of saran wrap (which really helped the humidity) on the shoebox size tupperware container with perlite and peeked in today to have the mycelium growing over the burn spots and the blue. I think it will take longer to pin since the mycelium network needs to re-estabish itself a bit but just wanted to report a good story and good luck. Hopefully that is. The other jars are reaching 100% today and tommorow and waiting a week to birth those so I'm sure pinning will be easier.

Don't be so sure, you're not off the hook yet. I mean, you may have defeated the contam, but my first couple of casings that got contaminated, I tried to cut out the contaminated part, and it'd look fine for a few days, but it ALWAYS came back. I've never beaten the green, once its visible, its really hard to beat it. But I wish you the best of luck, and please keep us updated.

just trying to stay optismistic but not putting all my apples in one barrel. Have a few jars at 100% totally healthy and allowing them to keep growing so I'm sure those will be stronger too.

it's not a matter of me not recognizing that the green is hard to beat it is merely me making an attempt to remain optimistic the entire process. I feel that it helps. It's not that I don't appreciate his advice, because I greatly appreciate it. In fact the entire point of this post is to share my experiences and encourage others to share theirs, whether it's a good experience or a bad experience is irelevant because as long as you are learning something it's all beneficial.

That is a great attitude to have while growing. I think you are doing great, and I hope you beat it, good luck, and keep the positive outlook.
