casing ?
    #1091551 - 11/27/02 06:10 PM (15 years, 6 months ago)

I understand that the amount of mycelium used in a casing has alot to do with the yeild. Does an increased amount of mycelium per casing promote multiple flushes, or how does this work? For example, would you get a better flush out of a casing which had 4 crumbled PF cakes than one that had only 2? Would this increase the yeild from second and/or third flushes? thanks

correction:

more nutrients = more mushrooms.

u could have a bucket full of 1 sort of substrate, and only half a bucket of another substrate.....depending on the substrates in the buckets, the half bucketfull could easily outperform the full one.

First, bear wirth this newbie......................I have read the FAQ and see that there are 5 or 6 different substrates recommended. I've already purchased some "arrowhead mills" BRF in accord with the PF tek..........what do you peops reccomend that would be more nutriciuos than BRF..............i'm about to take some pics of my setup and post em ................ constructive criticism is invited

ok, i think my correction confused you.

basically, skiid was correct when he said more substrate = more mushrooms.

so if u had a case with 3 crumbled cakes in, and a case with just 1 crumbled case in....then obvioulsy the 3 cake case would give much better results.

Im unsure how experienced you are at growing, but my advice to any newbie is:

1: Master the PF TEK
2: Master Casings
3: Master other substrates like grains (skip this one if you have no pressure cooker)
4: Master Bulk substrates

^^^ use the FAQ for information on all of these.

There is deffinatly a correlation between amount of "spawn" used and total yeilds AND the substrate being spawned. Both answers are right more spawn = more yeild and better nutrients (read substrate) = more yeild.

If I had to pick one over the other I think I would go with more spawn simply because of contaminations factors. The more spawn you use the faster colinization of the substrate so the less chance nastyness has of getting a foothold onto the scene and the fact that more spawn is still nutrient. I hope that made some kind of sense.
