Dry mycelium?
    #1088265 - 11/26/02 04:39 PM (21 years, 2 months ago)

Hey all! This will be my 2nd post here at the shroomery, so please treat me as a student...
Awhile back, I bought a Mycobag and a Hawaiian Spore sirynge...
I inoculated with proper cleanliness, and 3 weeks later, my bag started looking "milky" and I got worried...I thought either A.: contamination or B.: It's just mycelium...
Since it was for "observation purpose" only and I didn't expect to get shroomies my frist time anyways, I decided to cut the bag open.
Oh happy day! I dumped out the contents of the bag onto a sterilized plate and observed the medium to be overun with WHITE mycelium....I placed back in the bag
and put on my fridge(for warmth and kitchen light)....Another 3 weeks passed and nothing....There were still water droplets on the bag so moiture was good.
But the mycelium was starting to grow into fluffy white patches...
I removed (under sterile conditions) again, and placed the "cake" into a sterile tupperware container, and placed a good layer of sterilized vermiculite ontop and then watered....
2 weeks later, there is good moisture in the container, but no primordia...
I moved the vermiculite aside and the mycelium have not done anything and the cake seems to be a bit dry...
Can anyone HELP!!!!!!!!!! I JUST WANT TO SEE A FRESH MUSHIE!!!!!!!!!!!

In order to initiate pinning, you need to introduce a fresh supply of air, provide a diffuse source of light, and ideally lower the temps to 75 degrees F.

YAY! A reply!...
Okay, so this is what I have so far....
A 12" tupperware container with lid on.
And a sandwich of Vermiculite(bottom) Crubled cake(middle) Virmiculit(top).
The crumbled cake stuff is even entering the interior of the sunflower seeds( medium was birdseed/ brown rice flour)...It seems dry, but I can deal with that via a spray bottle...
How can I pin these?
I JUST WANT TO SEE A FRESH SHROOM once in my life!
Oh to see it turn blue before my very eyes!

Did the mycelium come through the top layer of vermiculite?

Nope, but it's getting pretty thick.
I broke a small piece of substrate appart, and to my amazement,
it is like completely white inside, it's like all the little grains and seeds are being digested by the mycelium(thats what is supposed to happen right?)
Anyways, the verm. is quite damp, but NO THING has come up through the vermiculite yet!
I don't chek them everyday(it seems like it though), to let co2 build up, but still nothing!
