As long as we buy our jars in quart size and have measuring cups in our kitchen cabinets, that's the system we're stuck with in the US.

Measuring cups have metric on the other side, turn it around. Any new ones do at least, a classic one might not. And while the jars are denominated in avoirdupois, w certainly can use 250/500/1000 mL for them.

But I'm not talking about converting the nation- I'm talking about converting us. And it sounds like people are willing. So let's all just remind each other to practice, and see what we can do.

why do we criminalize cannabis? Why do bible thumpers set our national policy? Maybe one day when this nation REALLY enters the 21st century we will switch to metrics.

I am in full support of the metric system as a student of biochemistry; however, I have to agree with RR on this one. Most things we use for this hobby/profession come in the standard system, seeing as we live in a country that uses it.

I'll help this forum in trying to use metric as it's measuring system, but the standard system will keep coming up, it's inevitable.

It comes out pretty fair though, since your countries are so tiny you never have to drive very far to get anywhere.

Also, Imperial system 4 lyfe.  I'm usually pretty open to new ideas but I think in miles, inches, cups, and ounces.  Sure it's a goofy nonsensical system but now that I know it it works just fine and I see no compelling reason to change.  It's not broke, I'm not gonna fix it.

Besides, I'd have to go buy new measuring scoops.

metric is better, but with the abundance of quart jars around it might be a bit of a challenge to make most switch :awesome:

The Celsius scale was not created solely for theoretical science. Where did you get that from?  It uses the boiling and freezing points of water as its arbitrary scale and was intended to be used to measure the temperatures of substances.

C is pointless.  the idea of ml/l and kg/g/mg is that its decimalized so it's easy to convert.  What the fuck would one convert a temperature too?  Millicelcius?  I'm all for metrics, but fuck C, it is so awkward when your talking about the most common temps.

The Metric System Rulz supreme, and the American people Know this to be true.
The only reason it is not been fully implemented is because of the costs involved to do so.
Imagine having to re-tool you motor industry alone and converting costly machines like Lathes, Milling machines to metric measurement etc.
You will eventually get there when the wheels fall off.

Drugs have taught an entire generation of Americans the metric system.

Even Kelvin isn't entirely theoretical. We measure temperature in Kelvin all the time.

yeah you're right, i guess i phrased that way wrong, what i meant to say is that F is more designed for the layman's usage (ie referring to weather) whilst C is more for science

Re: Why we should use the metric system? [Re: sashiva]
    #10903538 -

The whole system was derived from the properties of natural objects, namely the size of the Earth and the weight of water, and simple relations in between one unit and the other.

Everyone on here who cultivates can call themselves a mycologist if they want to, I don't give a shit.  Remember when we were kids in grade school, doing some lame science experiments, and our teachers were calling us scientist.

I prefer metric, being a canadian, but will commonly use feet, inches, and cups rather then metres, cm, and litres, due to there ease of guesstimation.

ie: 1 foot = a little less then the length of my own foot
1 inch, about 1/10 the length of my foot
1 cup, a little more then what the average drinking glass in my kitchen can hold.

"How many centimeters should my bulk sub be?"

10. Isn't that easy?

EXACTLY.

It's so easy that even non-Americans can do it!

Americans make up most of the membership of the Cultivation Forum.  We already have cups, ounces, and quarts at home.

In a year from now, there will be a whole new set of Americans reading in this forum who also don't want to use the metric system.  Both Americans and the rest of the educated world can easily utilize the interwebz for simple tasks like imperial-metric conversion.

Editing all the pre-existing teks should be fun; and pointless.

In addition, cultivators here use different methods to measure anything you can think of already.  Like quarts of spawn (not a quart):quarts of bulk sub.  Even measuring out agar-agar and PDA doesn't need to be really exact----I've had to add an activator to chlorine dioxide (which creates a little bit of mustard gas as a byproduct) in a professional laboratory numerous times; instances like this make me grateful for the metric system.  But when I come home at the end of the day, I have trouble finding any need for exact measurements in my cultivation hobby. ~Pixie~
