Purple??? WTF? Is this a contam?

I've never seen a purple contam before...

What is this?

I wrote on the tops of the jars with permanent marker, is it possible that the ink wicked through the tyvek and micropore tape?

These jars are white millet. Golden Teacher grain-2-grain.

what kind of permanent marker? it cant be a sharpie...i never had such a incident nor purple..tint...like shown above...

what color was it?
does it smell normal?

it looks like they all almost done colonizing...birth em and see if they's any type of pungent sour indicators of contam.. good luckk...

I've always been writing on the tyvek with marker and I've never seen this before...

Never seen a purple contam either...

The marker I used was a black sharpie.

do you have a metal lid up top separating the tyvek and tape? if not it looks exactly like permanent marker ink in water.

it looks like the ink from the tyvek you used may have run. could also be from the marker i suppose. if using mailing envelopes, i usually try to cut away from any ink or glue. usually only get a few sections per envelope that don't have any ink or glue on them but hey, they're practically free. i have no idea whether said inks could transfer to your grain or cause problems (most inks used these days on anything that will be used by consumers is normally soy based if i'm not mistaken) but i usually avoid them anyway, just to be safe. if it were me, i would toss those jars. anything other than white myc is bad in my book (unless maybe it's a metabolite).

Metal lids use only tyvek, no tape. (G2G) There is a metal lid between the millet and tyvek.

And the plastic lids I used micropore tape, but I didn't write on the tape, just on the plastic lid.

Hmmm...

I'll probably end up spawning them to some High Mountain Compost and see what happens.

damn...i remember..that feeling..it was in 06' and my growing skills got cockier ,i started to improvise more then i can chew....lol
..i started to fight this endless war on contams..consistently losing the war but winning a few battles...i lost more time, then fruits..... and decided to halt my endeavors..... but after almost 5 years...im back to wage war ..!!!!  or none at all..LOL.....

Or, just wait a day and see if it spreads.  I have defeintely seen purple, pink and red contams grow on agar from wild tissue samples I've collected.
