Got some shitty rash from drinking beer.

I have some rash all over my face and body from beer, I have had it once before years ago but it was only on my face. I know some people dont produce some enzyme which causes this, but I figured it would happen every time for those people.

Any of you guys get this from drinking?

Is it redness (flushing) or an actual rash? People lacking the ability to produce acetaldehyde dehydrogenase (sp?) essentially have the metabolism of alcohol stopped at a critical step, leading to a buildup of certain toxic byproducts. If it's a rash caused just by drinking beer, it's not Oriental Flush. If it's caused by drinking any alcohol you may lack the enzyme.

Well I only drink beer so I cant be certain as to whether other alcohol would cause it, but yeah it doesn't happen everytime I drink, only this time and one other from what I remember. It seems more like a rash cause there is lots of little bumps where its red, and the redness has quite defined edges, like weird patches.

compare the ingredients and brewing processes of the beer you drank each time.

i get red flushed and a temp increase when i drink certain wines and 1 or 2 beers; its an allergic reaction.

It may be just a reaction to beer then. Although what exactly could be causing it is beyond me... :shrug: As far as I know the most common reaction is to alcohol itself. Maybe someone has experienced something similar, I'm not sure what is happening.

people are allergic to sulfates, some yeast etc etc

I used to get the hives occasionally and I think it was from drinking.  I took diephenhydramine (robitussin, most otc sleeping pills) to help with that, but it makes a person kind of sleepy and might not work after awhile.  Otherwise clariton works to but not always right away.

I have a friend that has the same problem sometime, I think it is what the 2nd poster had said.
