3. Do not ask what mushrooms can be found growing in your state or immediate area.  That information can be found here:  http://www.shroomery.org/8461/Which-mushrooms-grow-wild-in-my-area Also read the Mushroom Hunting FAQ.

i have read the links that you are giving me but im trying to find out wich ones or one of the three that grow in the south west part of oklahoma that i would have the best chance of finding the Gymnopilus sp , phsylosibe c. or Panaeolus cinctulus

Real mushroom hunters don't expect to be carried to the right spots.

It all depends on habitat and season. We're now somewhere between summer and early autumn, so I would lean towards pan. cinctulus as your best bet (also because they don't taste as foul as gyms), but that means looking in different habitats than the forest environment in which you'd typically find gyms. Both species are fairly common.

Then, if you're in southern Oklahoma, you might give cubes a try, but that means roaming the cow paddies in that part of the state, preferably after a summer storm or an otherwise period of warm and wet weather.

Keep an eye open for finds of other Shroomerites from Oklahoma. Also do a search to see what fruiting patterns the different species appear to have in your area based on finds of previous years.

No you are not wrong. Dusty areas don't retain humidity well and mushrooms need very high relative humidity to fruit (especially near the ground, which is why grassy areas are ideal). That's why you go out hunting a few days after a good rainstorm, not after a 4 week drought.

Dusty doesn't sound right. Mushrooms generally favor damp substrates and high humidity. That's why these boards always resonate with cheer as soon as a hurricane hits the North American continent. Which is remarkable, if you think of it.

Yeah, I know. It's just that many members here have been hunting mushrooms for years before finding their first actives. Impatience contradicts successful mushroom hunting.
Maybe you should consider cultivating your own shrooms while you are waiting to find your first actives in the wild. Just saying. It's easy, fun and rewarding:

The gathering forum is where I'd start.
BTW, I have children in the house myself and they know I cultivate mushrooms. If you are uncomfortable with the people you live with knowing about your affinity for magic mushrooms then maybe you should consider hunting just edibles as it were.
With magic mushrooms I have no problems, anything I have to keep a secret from the people around me that I love is what I really don't feel comfortable with.

I suspect there might be some requirements for viewing that forum though, something like being registered for at least one or two months and/or a certain number of posts. I'm not sure though.
