Here's a good book for people who have trouble with their parental relationships:

It's one thing to simply enjoy a style of life that one enjoys, but it's another thing altogether to refer to another person's choice as "wrong" or to rationalize their behavior as being pathological or resulting from some sort of inadequacy or failing so as to create a sense of superiority or separation as yet another projection of a personal fear or control issue.

Getting out of the house is almost necessary for situations like these. Parents need a long break from you to realize that you've grown up. They won't stop doing what they've been doing to you your hole life until your not there anymore. College is a good option although it doesn't entirely remove the "kiddie" stigma.

I think it's ridiculous that my mom thinks she has the right to literally tell me what to do; by doing so, she fucked up our relationship. Parents are supposed to be guides, not bosses.

Kids who grow up with bossy parents tend to need people to do things for them, whereas kids with guiding parents tend to develop a healthy amount of independence.

That would suck if you died in the military, because that would basically mean that your mom killed you! :tongue2:

When you are dependent on another adult, you pay a price.  You are paying the price. Become independent and call the shots for yourself.
