Keep the shotgun FC elevated an inch or so. When you first put in the damp perlite, a few drops of water may leak out the bottom, but otherwise it stays pretty dry.

Yup, no standing water in the shotgun FC.  The water stays on the surface area of the perlite.  Air comes in through the bottom, and picks up moisture from the perlite and goes out the top/sides.  This keeps the humidity above 90%.

Perlite holds a lot of water for a long time and creates a lot of humidity. You want holes in the bottom to keep water from pooling because you'll get bacteria growing in it. Alternatively you could just drain it well b4 u stick it in the container.

Your first task should be learning to use the search functions. Search our site will give you teks, search our forums gives msg threads.

Try searching 'shotgun' in the teks section. Shotgun terrarium is just a plastic container w/ perlite (3+ inches) and some holes. Key for cakes is maxing out your humidity and plenty of fanning or air holes. Its really hard to mess up.

if i have 6 x 1pint jars for my substarate and a syringe of 12 cc's how much should i put in each jar given that there are 4 inoculation holes in each jar, i'v heard about 1-2cc's is good per jar, would this mean that i put about 0.25 cc's per hole?

That's right. If they are pint jars, you can give them a drop extra, but not too much.

and when building your terarrium exactly how many holes you need to put in the plastic tote? i know they need to be on all four sides even the bottom but how many? and also when fruiting them does the terrarium need to be elevated to allow air to circulate through the bottom?

w/ pint sized cakes instead of half pint you should be aware of a few issues.

In my cat's experience the pint jars take longer to sterilize and longer to fully colonize. It's also harder to tell if the cake is colonized in the center. So perhaps it'd be wise to add a 5th inoculation point in the center. Just a heads up.

watch the pf tek videos, follow it exactly and you will succeed.

avoid pint jars, use 1/2 pints as recomended in the pf tek.

the thing is, its not hard. Its actually very easy.

where people fail is not following directions exactly and improvise on things.

Read this page and watch all four videos.  All your questions are answered, except about 'strain' and the dartboard is a good method.  Otherwise, pick out one with a boring name and order it.  Or, pick out one with a cool name and order it.  Won't make a damn bit of difference.
