I've noticed people making reference to the "ten percent of our brain" myth quite often in here, so here's a link.

Cool link. Everything we 'know,' or think we 'know,' could be myth. Nothing but experience is concrete.

The way I heard it wasn't that we use only 10% of our brain, but rather 10% of our memory capacity. I think that would be a tough thing to verify (how could we possibly determine what the memory capacity of the brain is?) But I'll have to admit I'm amazed at how much shit is still in my head from the past. I can't dig it up at will, but if something triggers my memory (like hearing an old joke, or revisisting a place that I've been before), then I'll remember it...

Do a search here guys. I refute this myth at least once every six months.

You mean you state your opinion once every six months. That doesn't mean we should take you seriously.

If you know the nature of how this myth got started which I have explaned v-e-r-y carefully, step-by-step, then you would see that what I expressed is not in the nature of an opinion. The myth was based on a total misunderstanding of brain MRIs by a lay reporter.

Could you help me with the link? I don't argue with the point that more than 10% of the brain is used (that certainly makes sense), but what about the question of memory? Is that addressed as well? How much memory we have, how anyone knows how much we have, and how much is typically used?

GoBlue!- Read up on Philosophy of Mind. I think understanding Parallel Distributed Processors would give you insight into these matters.

I'm pretty sure that we don't really know how memory works, and have no idea of the capacity.
