HeyReef, you only need a pressure cooker when your working w/grain or seed, steaming at the lowest boiling point is safe & effective for cake substrates..I insert a aluminum pie plate(upside down) into my pot, put jars on top, this insures that water will not slosh into jars and keeps heat away from the bottom.Remember, lowest boiling point, too much heat causes 'senescence' or halted growth of mycelium on substrate..GoodLuck!

If your mom has a deep fryer,use that.Just use water instead of oil and keep the jars off the bottom.Mine goes up to 425 but I cook mine a 300.
