Happy Woodstock Day!

Unbelievable (to me!) is that is has been 40 years since this historical gathering. This and other cultural milestones have led to the forming of the Shroomery as well as to current festivals such as 'Burning Man'.
Songwriting genius Jone Mitchell penned the poignant words to this anthem:
I came upon a child of god He was walking along the road And I asked him, where are you going And this he told me Im going on down to Yasgur's farm Im going to join in a rock 'n roll band Im going to camp out on the land Im going to try and get my soul free
We are stardust We are golden And we've got to get ourselves Back to the garden
Then can I walk beside you I have come here to lose the smog And I feel to be a cog in something turning Well maybe it is just the time of year Or maybe it's the time of man I dont know who l am But you know life is for learning
We are stardust We are golden And weve got to get ourselves Back to the garden
By the time we got to Woodstock We were half a million strong And everywhere there was song and celebration And I dreamed I saw the bombers Riding shotgun in the sky And they were turning into butterflies Above our nation
We are stardust Billion year old carbon We are golden Caught in the devil's bargain And we've got to get ourselves Back to the garden
*OC sheds a tear of nostalgia*

Yeah, I was in tenth grade. Burning man is a big step up IMO although I didn't attend woodstock. But in general the promise of woodstock fell flat on it's face in the mud.

So you didn't attend woodstock but IYO Burning man is a big step up. Well in general people that can't compare or judge based on lack of information should probably stfu nothing personal of course. As to falling flat on it's face in the mud shame on u a real hippie would still have faith.

Just because I didn't attend doesn't mean I know nothing about what happened there. Read everything I could find on it including eyewitness reports and watched every video I could.
And of course with you it is personal so don't be lying about this.

And really, it's nothing personal.

A favorite pic of mine.
I was going into the 11th grade in the following weeks. I waved to my older cousin Bruce who was in a car with his friends, on the way to Woodstock. He became a life-long heroin addict who died a few years ago after we had two phone conversations. He had disappeared for 32 years, living wherever the heroin was cheap. He was locked up in a Bolivian jail in the 70s. I still have the '77 High Times Magazine which had an interview with his mom (my mean aunt).
In the fall, Karen K. sat right behind me in algebra II. She had made it to Woodstock (we were in NJ). I tried to absorb it vicariously. It was a real cluster-f**k, but I've managed to retain its idealized spirit, howsoever out of time, space and praxis it is 40 years later. I did make it to the next big concert at the Poconos Raceway. It too was rained out, no spirit, no music greats, never got near the stage. All I remember is passing out in my little tent and seeing a young mother hold a joint to the lips of an almost new-born baby.

Not true on both counts. Even if I had been there, at sixteen I couldn't have judged what was going on accurately. Just as by attending Burning Man I cannot know everything that goes on there.
And really, it is personal.

What's really true is it wouldn't matter what age you were you couldn't judge what was/is going on accurately. Nothing personal, but personally I would recommend you open your eyes and shut your pie hole for a while.

Yeah it's not personal that's obvious.
What's your problem? Let's get it out in the open or if you need to PM me as I would be glad to discuss it in depth.

I don't know a lot about Woodstock, other than the great bands and the medical disaster, but Happy Woodstock Day!
I will make it to Burning Man soon.

Don't really believe in spirits or the rest of that statement but I do listen to his greatest hits quite often. He had lots downer songs that I especially like.

Well as I said "in spirit" maybe I meant that I felt his spirit in me. Don't really believe I meant his ghost was roaming around but if it was and I could measure it I'm sure JREF has that check just a waiting for me to collect.
LOL.

His spirit is in you? You mean physically? That's nasty.
Or are you just saying you like his music?

Hey that reminds me, you still have all those deer in your yard?
I have them everywhere this year. It's a rare day I don't see ten or more in town (along with lots of turkeys and fox)
