the black spot is probably nothing, i would leave it alone. the white marks are where it has possibly gotten damaged or scratched and the cactus healed itself, just "scars" ...they look really nice and healthy, and that top view shot is especially cool.

Nice cuttings!
However, those are probably the worst possible pots you could have put them in...Cacti prefer a very wide but shallow pot, or at the least a normal sized pot...those are tall and skinny. They will survive, but they probably won't grow as well as they would have in wider pots....also, you're gonna have to be really careful about not knocking them over.
But San Pedro is a very hardy species...even in those narrow pots I am sure they will do just fine on their sunny window ledge, those are very healthy looking specimens!

Thanks for the reply's poeple!

@Peace_Patrol, thanks for the tip, i bought 2 wider pots today and there also a little bit shallower, only bad thing maybe is that they are plastic pots.

as you can see they dont have roots yet, and i only gave them water once, but after that i took em out of the pots & rolled them up in a news paper & stored them in a closet, because someone told me that they should go in a winter stop & the water will only invite rotting, it is now november so what should i do? give them a winter stop and just leave them in the soil and not give water even though they dont have roots? or should i take them out of the soil and store them until its april?

Thanks.

nah just keep waterin and expose em to light. i dont think cacti have a stage of dormancy when rooted. As far as i know they keep growin as long as they have light. More light means the more water they drink :/ Root rot will only occur if u overly water and have a pot that holds moisture and a soil mix that holds it too.

Cacti will go through a winter dormancy period, except when you control their environment the dormancy period may not exactly be in winter, or will be shortened. But all cacti will go through winter dormancy regardless if rooted or not. I've seen cacti grow in a closet that have been rolled in a newspaper.

When you notice that growth has subsided, i'd water a little less than normal. And keep giving them light and stuff, soon you'll see growth again.

aren't them actually short spined peruvians? they look so dark green...
what are those dark spots???
i think i can see some scale growing also... it is better to get rid of it while it's still small and the plant is dormant...
good luck!

those are definately t. pachanoi or san pedros. the short spine peruvianus still aren't short spines they still stickout a good bit. dark spots are ok if they are hard cuz i have them too on mine. i think its healing from scars :/ and i dont see how the plant can go into dormancy if its indoors and has its own light for 12+ hours a day.

>>and i dont see how the plant can go into dormancy if its indoors and has its own light for 12+ hours a day.

They do. Believe me, do a little search somewhere (not sure where) or try the library, but i know this for a fact. I'm sitting right next to a Cinnamon tree i have growing in my house that has been under the same growing parameters and has ceased to grow for a while. In a month or two it will grow again. This is just an example and this applies ot plants as well as cacti and succulents. Trust me plant science was my major.

some of us are working on an experiment called the octogon tek.
so far this has interupted the dormancy phase and continued growth.
this is still in the experimental phases and is showing promising results
i have been growing pedro for 12 years and this is the first winter i am getting growth(there is snow on the ground now) after we iron out details we will release this tek

I'm skeptical of this tek, perhaps you may think it's interrupting a dormancy phase. Regardless or not if there are environmental changes a plant will go through a period of dormancy. The only thing you can do is to shorten the length of the dormancy period. The only thing i can hypothesize your octagon is doing, is diminishing the dormancy phase to a non-noticable span of time. All in all though, all plants have cycles they follow regardless of environmental conditions.

my supplier in miami has about 200 pedro`s and his grow year around and have for the 20 years he`s been growing.i think the dormancy cycle is just a stage that a cactus goes into without enough stimulation.
again just my opinion from my observations of my cacti and my friends who get exellent growth year around
even if it is diminishing the dormancy cycle to non notacable time lenghts, this is good because the more my cactus is in the growth phase the bigger it gets
