San Pedro Infection
    #10883953 - 08/18/09 04:29 PM (14 years, 6 months ago)

My cactus is getting these rusty brown orange spots all over it. I suspect that it is a fungus infestation caused by soil that doesn't drain very well. Do you guys think she can be saved or do you think the fungus will eventually take over the whole plant? I'm definitely bummed about this one.

On the bright side, however, my rivea corymbosa just flowered.

Ya, those don't look too bad, but what in the hell did you do to that poor san pedro in the last shot? I don't think I've ever seen a cactus that etiolated.

Not to get too far off topic, but The third pedro looks almost as bad as my recent rehab cactus.  Poor guy spent 3 years in the most shaded corner of a yard.  (which doesnt sound bad, but apparently its far more stressful than being in way too much light...which were the plants on the otherside of my friend's yard)

If you suspect a rust infection , you should  pull it out of the soil. Quarantine it,  wash it very well & use a fungicide.  Since rust infections are usually specifically infected on a plant to plant basis , I'd definitely keep it away from any other cacti & check with where you got it at.
