Stuntzi's in WA.....

All the people...HOLY CRAP! THAT LOOKS LIKE A STUNTZI!!

Seriously though, found these on Aug 17.  I haven't done a "formal" ID, but I'm pretty confident in my abilities to ID a stuntzi in the field.  Hygrophanous cap, viscid pellicle, prominent annulus with a blueish tinge, and a purplish spore print (observed on a cap -see pic).

Im guessing there is some kind of sprinkler system at the location...the grass was very healthy looking.

Maybe it's common to find P. stuntzi this early (and I just haven't been looking...)  Anyone out there familiar with this species and region? 

PS: One of the pics is not a mushroom...it's a raccoon.  I know, sometimes I get them confused too...

Fourth pic looks like a Procyon lotor to me:

I believe it's edible if skinned, properly butchered, and cooked thoroughly, but wait for a TI. What kind of tree did you find it under?

yeah dude; confusing coons with an agaricale... total new-b move...

as for the mushrooms, they sure do look to be a Psilocybe and if you're sure of the blueing, P. stuntzii might be the best bet.

i don't have the most experience with this species, but i've collected them from wood a few times. i know how unreliable the blueing can be.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

canid: tell me about it...I once tried to spore sprint one of those suckers...couldn't even get the glass to fit over him!  But yeah, Im fairly positive of the ID....

Sweet find.  Gonna collect the Fibs this year?  As far as I know, the Stuntzii is a bit of a complex.  There is disagreement about the species.

WA P. stuntzii will fruit nearly all summer long in irrigated areas.  They seem pretty tolerant of warm temperatures.
