That shit is BUNK with a capital B. When I was a kid I used to go pick it in KS when ever there was a drought. I made a killing & no-one complained.
During WW2 there were Gov. subsidized hemp farm. It still grows wild there. I'd make a bet that you are eithere in KS , MS our INdiana.

They are females. They have preflowers. All the nearby males had already developed their pollen sacks. We happened to have a pocket knife, so we took care of the males. If this is someone elses grow, I take my hat off to them. we rode about 25 minutes from the road on atvs. There were no signs of recent human activity, and the layout of the plants was VERY broad and natural looking. I mean covers over a mile from first plant to last one we saw. There are many plants, too many to count. I have read up on ditch weed and learned that it will most likely not be that potent. Anyone ever smoke decent wild marijuana?

Actually, I am not in those states, but very nearby to them. I'm sure you could guess. I may sample a bit this fall and report back.

It's going to be very weak, but you could always cook with massive quantities of it. I'd recommend that over smoking ditch weed.

it's everywhere in iowa. there are entire fields of it and they grow like trees. it's sorta fun to take a blunt route into the country and see all the ditch weed growing naturally. it smells good but i wouldn't ever recommend smoking it

The whole trick to messing with ditch weed is when you collect it. Too soon & you have leaves , too late & you might have a 4' bud that is 95 % seeds , and 100% totally bunk. If you cut it in mid-flowering sometimes you can catch something that will give you a very small high. I have cured samples that looked & smelled exactly like cheap south of the border weed. They just didn't get you very high . There is a method of I know of curing that will make it passable. Like I said though , I was a kid when I messed with passing off hemp as a product. It has been about 20 years since I have messed with it.

They look similar to the Hemp crops that I've seen grown in New Zealand.
That second pic shows some good examples of hemp, long gangly stems and leaves, good for fibre etc. I'd say they are a relic from the days when hemp was a major player in the fibre industry...but I could be wrong.

i would stuff sacks of it on the back of your ATV then buy a gallon of solvent and do an extract..
That might be alright if you poured the solvent off the plant matter after like 1 minutes so thers not too much nasty gunk in there.

Because of genetic disposition. This MJ was bred for rope production in the 1940's. I have known of people doing their own thing in the midst of it as a mask. It still will only be mediocre at best if bred with it.

We haven't been back since, and agreed only to back at harvest time. No unnecessary trips. As for the extraction ideas, I don't think any of it will be worthwhile, as the THC content will be so low, it will take a lot of raw material to make a small amount of usable product. I have a pocket microscope to tell when it's truly ready to harvest. So we'll harvest at optimum time. Dry, cure, and cross our fingers. I'm not going to harvest that much anyway, maybe a pound of it. I just want to see how it smokes, being natural and all. Thing is, I have some of this stuff called "Beastie Blooms", and some fish emulsion type fertilizer. Anyone think I should treat a small area or is that a waste of time.

You have to harvest a lot earlier if you want anything besides seeds. When you first see whitehairs is the optimum time.

When I used to fuck with it , there were more than one strain growing. Some were giant. The ones that were under the street lights & never left vegative state were big enough to climb up in a few feet. That is when I realized that the flowering process was light activated. You could look down the road & see that the closer to the street light the taller the plants & the less bud they had. There was also a variety that wouldn't make over 4' tall. I can remember running in the fields and thinking I was in heaven. Ah... To be a kid again.
One would think that if someone took the time to introduce some new genes in the pool ,something really good. cut down all of the "male hemp" in the immediate vicinity that in a few years you might get something smokable. Just a thought. .

I'm not familiar with Cannabis hibiscus, but I assume they started using that after Cannabis sativa was outlawed as a crop in the late 30's?
In the South Island of New Zealand ,they have been trialling Hemp as a crop for mud brick, rope, paper and cold pressed oil. The strain in use is Cannabis p. kompolti pacifica. It is a variety bred specificialy for Southern latitudes as a high fibre producer. I have tried smoking this variety and let me tell you it was not pleasant.

When you cure , I would suggest sweating it. It tends to get rid of the clorophyll. You need to change the starches into sugars. You will end up with a brown product but it will be a much more smoke able product in end result.

***UPDATE***

Sorry, I only have the one pick from the harvest, but I will describe how it went. After patiently waiting a month and a half, the weather here has gotten significantly cooler. We harvested about 1.5 pounds of bud. We were mostly taking top buds, which were the thickest, densest buds of the whole plant. The buds were bright green, and very sticky. They looked awesome. They were very seedy though, after 15 days hanging to dry, we shook and tapped them lighty outside to remove some seeds. This is where we hung them to dry. Barn loft.

We lost over a pound to the seeds alone. (we originally had 2.5lbs of dry bud) We cured them for about 5 days in quart mason jars. The smoke is smooth, good taste, but the high is weak. High seems like more of a head buzz, no stoning effect that I noticed. I am not a heavy smoker, so I let some friends at it, they said after a blunt to 1 or 2 people, the high was ok. I asked about headaches or any of that, and they said they noticed nothing other than the lack of stoning without smoking copious amounts.
Either way, this was free to me, other than my time. It seems fortunate now that there has been somewhat of a drought in my area. I was able to off load everything to one person, who had tried some, and was convinced they could deal with it. I sold it considerably under market value, but it was well worth my time and effort.

actually, I took about an ounce and dipped it in aceteone for 30 min. Poured the acetone into a pyrex dish and left it to evaporate.I came back later and scraped up the residue, it was brownish and very sticky and tar-like. Let a friend melt some over a bowl of the same bud, and he did get a headache. I gave up after that. I read somewhere that there is a process to convert cannabidiol into thc delta-9. Knowing that what I harvested has a high content of cannabidiol, I am interested in this process. I believe its called "isomerization". Anyone out there know about this?

There lies isomerization tekniques on Erowid.
I bet the Acetone was why the hash sucked.
I used acetone to make hash once and the bottle said it was 100% pure but it wasnt. I think acetone sucks for making hash.

Isopropyl alchohol is best to make cannabis oil with. You don't need any chemicals to make hash, just tap the dried plant material over a screen and collect the trichomes, compress and smoke.
@literberry, good to hear the harvest worked out in your favor.
