You can make Karo water, just do a search for it. It would stretch your print out a great deal, too.

>heat from the oven will destroy airborne contaminants.
The theory behind the overn tek is that hot air rises and will prevent airborne contaminants from landing on your work space
Anno conducted an experiment a while back which proved this false.  It's worthless.  All i have to say is LYSOL

The oven tek is not useless.
I know of the larger percentage of ppl here who continually use it with great success, myself included.
Trust me as well, the 10 clean, viable, aggressive, mycelium covered petris don`t lie.

I sure hope the oven tek isn't useless cause I always put a lot of faith in it.

In reply to:

I used to inoculate by flecking spores right onto the substrate in a glovebox and really didn't have any problems with contam with most of my prints. Somehow a few of them were badly contaminated so I got me some agar. Instead of just making syringes out of the spores, or flecking directly onto the substrate, I would fleck the spores on some agar agar under sterile conditions. After it grew out a bit, I would then take a small piece of the mycelium and transfer it to another petri dish of agar with a sterile scalpel until an isolated culture was obtained. Then I would take that final mycelium and drop in a dish of sterile water and suck up with a syringe.

Voilah, mycelium syringes! Glovebox is a necessity for working with agar however but thats no big deal to make.

I assume that injecting mycelium would lead to faster growth and more consistent results.

wtf! What your country needs is a bit of the ol' 'harm reduction' legislation LOL

....No probs picking up syringes and needles here for free from Govt needle exchanges...but then you've got the access to all that canning-jar/humidifier shit over there...

So it's a trade-off i guess hehe

I looked and looked forever (a month) for syringes with ordering them and bumped into them at a feed and seed in a small town nearby. 12cc for $.80 with needle. I told the clerk my daughter needed it for a biology project.

It would be alot easier with a quart jar of grain. put a dimple with a hole in the middle in the lid, sterilize the shit out of the lid with some alcohol, and just pour the sporewater in.

Any farm supply store should have 10-13cc syringes and 16-18 gauge needles. They're the same kind used for refilling inkjet printer cartridges. If they ask you why you need them, just tell them that.

I used to use them on my Epson.
