I was under the impression that prozac was an SSRI which means that it actually inhibits serotonin from leaving it receptor site longer than it should.

regardless...... just because these two molecules may plug into the same receptor sites (i don't even know if this is true..) doesn't mean thier effects will be even remotely close to eachother

From what I understand (I could be wrong), SSRI's plug into the pre -synaptic serotonin sights and block the reuptake ,causing more serotonin to be available to the post -synaptic serotonin receptors,and LSD and Psilocybin plug into the post-synaptic receptors of a subtype of serotonin (the 5-HT2) and act as partial agonists and actually block some serotonin. In certain ways they are somewhat alike and in other ways totally different. They both act primarily on serotonin,but do it by different mechanisms and are totally different types of drugs. Serotonin can be inhibitory(usually) or excitory depending on the subtype and what part of the brain its in.
I've read some interesting things about dreams and serotonin. During REM sleep,some neurologists speculate that there is huge drop in serotonin when heavy dreaming starts.Some people believe that dreams let you access your subconscious. Some people also believe that the psychedelic experience lets you access your subconscious.If you put both together,tripping might be kind of like a "waking dream".

Here's what I mean though:

Seratonin plugs into these receptors and... "does something" there.

These other molecules which plug in there "do something" completely different though :smile:

You have to be one dumb bastard to believe that psychedelics cause your brain to bleed. I remember hearing that garbage when I was about 10,when I believed smoking weed kills brain cells, and thinking "bullshit". Any amount of common sense would tell you that your brain bleeding would cause death,coma, or at least severe retardation.
I remember hearing this moronic crock of shit in high school and the people that would say it would be those teenybopper,MTV watching cocksmokers that dropped acid once or twice because it was "cool". You know,the kind of people that shouldn't go within ten miles of any mind altering drugs.
"Yeah man,I used to know this guy that ran from the cops with a sheet of acid taped to (insert random body part here) and it mixed with his sweat and killed him."
