Hey guys how ya doin? I'm Called buddah down here in florida.

So i ordered my first syringe of Cambodian mushies from spores101 hope there good......

Now as of equipment i have the following:

12 1/2 pint ball tapered mason jars.
1 6QT 10 PSI pressure cooker (they didden't have anything bigger)
Gloves
2 Bags Brown rice
2 Big rubbermaid thingys.

I'm gonna buy some vermiculite and perlite maybe today or so since the spores may not be hear till the end of the week. (ups shipping)
So i said i live in Florida, So its already quite hot and humid so i figure i wont need a heater but i may get one anyway,

After reading all the PF tek and what not i'm still a bit confuzzeld
I just want to have a successful first harvest ><

I figured i'll be able to do this right if i had some advice from all of you! Thanks and cheers everyone!

Brown rice, or brown rice FLOUR?  Are you planning on grinding the rice?

What are the "big rubbermaid thingys" for?  Some more information would help us help you.  :smirk:

bad idea getting spores from spores 101. if they get to you , which sometimes takes forever or not at all, there syringes are bunk many of the time. your gonna need to hang out here and read anfd learn. plus watching the rr video on hear for pf cakes is a must for newbies

but if u got a pc and u got tapered jars .u might as well get WBS or grain .cus ur not gonna be able to to brf cakes with those jars

the Rubbermaid thingys in my mind were for a fruiting chamber, and something to keep my jars warm and yeah i was gonna grind the brown rice in a coffee grinder.

(anyone have experience with Cambodian shrooms? from spores101)

and yeah its organic rice.

Ya, Spores101 isn't a Shroomery sponsor, so you can't be guaranteed that the spores are going to be good. Next time, use a Shroomery sponsor.
The best advice anyone here can give you is to use the search function for every question you have, it is your best teacher. Read, read, and read some more, there is SO much to learn from this site.
Make sure you follow every word of the pf tek and you can't go wrong.
Since the humidity is high in Florida, you should have good success building a shotgun FC. The original pf tek doesn't mention this type of FC.

I don't know which guides and FAQ's you were reading, but you definately need wide mouth jars for pf cakes, because they need to slide out of the jar when they are fully colonized. With tapered jars, you'll have to destroy the cake, or break the jar to get it out.

Great so now i'm a bit pissed.

I hope my spores are still alive when i get them...
I read that spores101 will replace bunk syringes..but now i'm pissed.
half the sponsored of this site are shady and some require money orders for payment (WTF?!) So yeah...

money orders your probably refering to is ralphsters right. he is top notch, and if you wanna use a debit card instead, sporeworks is great to:thumbup:. if there a sponser here than you can be sure that there a legit and they will do everything to make sure your completely satisfied.

I got that race from spores101 and there doing just fine, I ain't promoting non sponsors I just ordered before I knew the sponsors. I'm just saying don't get to down in the dumps just have a little faith and be clean and sterile. Next time just go through the sponsor list http://www.shroomery.org/sponsors.php

Hmmm, I was under the impression that tapered jars have the smaller tops. I mean, the definition of taper is "to become progressively smaller toward one end". I googled "tapered jars" too, and got results for both small AND wide mouth jars. :shrug: So forget the word tapered, as long as you bought wide-mouth jars with no shoulders, you'll be fine.
As for the spores, all I can say is good luck. Some people have success with their spores. If you're not in a huge hurry, you should still wait and see if the syringes work before ordering more.

Even regular mouth 1/2 pints will work as long as it's "even" from top to bottom

dont worry about keeping your jars warm. they colinise just fine at room temp :-)

im in the UK and colinise my jars out in the open with very little heating.

Uh....when i read some guides and faq's they said to use tapered jars.


Tapered means wider at the lid than at the bottom.

Some Mason jar makers, in my neck of the woods that is, name the jars with the bigger non-standard lids (86mm) wide mouth, but the jar isn't tapered, meaning it's the same diameter from top to bottom.

For BRF cakes you want the tapered jars so the cakes slide out with ease. Straight "even" jars will work but not as easy. Just make sure you don’t use a regular Mason jar where the lid end is smaller than the body and you should be fine.

Yeah it seems to be the case. well i got about 28 bucks left in the bank account. anyone wanna recomend me some spores?

I may file a complaint with spores101 via my own company is the syringe that comes in (if it does) Is contaminated or just plain water..

One of the sites I use is sporeworks.com haven't had any problems with that company. Syringes always packed with spores. An awesome site to learn from would be http://www.mushroomvideos.com/ awesome site.

Just curious, are you wearing the gas mask because of health reasons or to mask your face?  I hope it's not for health reasons (ie... I hope growing is safe).  :newbie:

To tell you the truth I received a alacabenzi spore syringe from spores 101 and it was fine. It was not packed with spores like spore works but it did the trick... would I ever buy from spores 101 again probably not but this could have been before some kind of falling out. Not sure what happened to the company but from what I hear it went downhill

Yea I got my spores from hawkeye, cool guy too, I talked to him on the phone.

  As far as what "strain" to pick, I promise, they are all almost identical.  Like they always say "a cube is a cube"  Use the search, and type in different kinds of cubes, and you will notice they look almost exactly the same!  There might be small differences, but the best way to get "faster colonization" or "even pinset" or "bigger shrooms" is by cloning.  IMO strain plays little part in any of that.

  In this hobby, 2 weeks is nothing.  My biggest downfall was being impatient.  You need to just wait it out, and eventually you will get it down.  If someone says it takes 2 weeks to colonize, count on 3-4 just so you wont be disapointed.  Every grow is different, and when you are just starting out, the hardest thing to learn is patience man.
