casings between flushes
    #1087710 - 11/26/02 03:05 PM (14 years, 15 days ago)

i have some B+ cased in vermiculite and they're almost ready for picking. this is my first time doing a casing and i was wondering what i should do after picking the shrooms? i'm gonna pick all the aborts too, but there's lots of aggressive mycelium that poked through the vermiculite when i was initiating pins for the first flush.

should i just patch areas where i picked shrooms from or should i also cover the mentioned aggressive mycelium? i was also gonna give it a good misting or two after the first flush. is it wise to mist heavily with so much mycelium showing? i don't want it to rot or get contaminated.

ps. when i say "much mycelium", i don't mean overlay. when i first moved the casing into the terrarium, i could barely see mycelium underneath the top vermiculite layer. this stuff poked through AFTER it was moved into the terrarium for pinning/fruiting.. it's more rizo myc than anything.

i usually add a thin layer of casing to areas of exposed mycelium in between flushes... may i also recommend using 50/50 casing, as it is much easier to patch & apply thin layers (at least i think)
