dunking without using frridge?

ok so now 2 of my cakes are fully colonized, and im going to case them preaty soon, i was wondering if placing cakes in the clean jars with water in lets say for example leave them outside for the night... will they get enough cold to triger pinning? i can't really use the fridge couse i don't want any questing from the people that i live with...

What are your temps outside? As long as they don't freeze, you'll be OK. Might want to put them in a bag to reduce the chances of contams.

lol yeah im a name thief :smile:

the temperature outside get preaty cold but i don't think it drops bellow 0 c' yet...

im going to fill the jars with water put them in a clean ziplock bag and hang outside my window for couple of hours...

A couple of hours won't do much good. 12-24 hours is the suggested time for dunking. Less than 12 is not very effective, in my experience, and over 24 risks drowning your mycellium.

dunking and cold shocking are different things, theyve just been combined for the dunk tek. I almost always dunk without using the fridge when my cakes look dry, but when they look healthy and wet I cold shock them to trigger pinning.
