What's the strangest substrate you've ever heard someone using? Just curious. It seems like, within reason, mushrooms will grow on just about anything.

A bible? That's awesome. (Although I do hate to see a book destroyed)

When I saw that picture, I was in shock for many reasons. I was impressed, surprised and laughing quite a bit to see magic mushrooms growing out of the pages of a bible.
Strangest substrate? Ramen noodles and vermiculite. Realizing I had very very little BRF left, I just looked around for anything that might provide some nutrients. Noodles seem to fit the bill (I was on a few too many chemicals, clear thinking wasn't an option at the time) although the mushrooms weren't very potent in the end, for obvious reason.

It was a bible that was printed in china. I saw it at walden books and got so mad, I bought it just to grow mushrooms on. They don't even allow their own people to have bibles, but print them with their cheap-ass communist labor to flood our markets over here, putting book printers out of business in the U.S. Fuck them.
I like the bra and quarter pound of nugs grows better for unusual substrates. The burrito was interesting too, although a shitty performer. RR

I've seen a couple noodle grows over the years. Some of the more interesting grows I've watched are some guy put a stuffed doll in a jar and pressure cooked it. It was one of those Eet Moor Chikn cows I think. Anyhow It colonized... that was pretty wild. I liked the straw cakes I saw someone do recently. Pint jars filled with straw and shot up with LC. I myself just recently made a poop cake work. Yeah I'm still in shock myself. I ran across the old thread Anno made years ago with a recipe for poo cakes for Pan Cyans. I was looking for a Pan Substrate when I found it. I forget who's recipe it was originally. Anno was quoting someone else. Anyhow it has worked so far. The jars are fully colonized. I would have put them in a tray and cased them this week end if not for so many house guests etc. Let me see what other weirdos have I seen... well I saw someone use grass clippings as their mini bulk substrate before. RR used pot as a substrate once. A lot of pot. There is an old thread on it around here somewhere. Frankly look back through RRs posts. I dig through his threads from time to time and find some pretty interesting stuff. Oh I once used MGMC as a minibulk substrate. I mixed some WBS with it. Not fantasic but it worked.

ok i found a place to admit what I've done lmao
i was broke and had some LC ... I mixed some sorghum/molasses with chex grain cerial and cow poo in 1/2 pint jars... and injected with LC
then I took some Tupperware and old CD/DVD packages and poured the sorghum with peroxide/LC in on top lol
guess i figured i might as well have something to watch grow lol the poo syrup cerial is starting to colonize lmfao
nothing on the molasses/sorghum stuff alone yet
