What I woke up to this morning
    #10872237 - 08/16/09 07:30 PM (14 years, 7 months ago)

This is my cats first attempt at cultivation. They are GT's. The biggest is only 6 inches long right now. The other cakes were knocked up at a later time so he's still waiting on fruits. Although he did have one cake stall and he's still waiting on it. Whats up with that?

It's on the first flush and if he washed his hands, touching a cake is nothing bad.  I do it all the time.

P.S.  I respect anybody willing to tackle anything with perlite.

I use gloves, fire, and alcohol more than most people here to make sure everything is sterile... cakes are fine to handle with washed hands though. From what I've seen they don't harbor any bacterial contaminates and our hands don't harbor trich spores more or less than gloves would.

Awesomely beautiful, really makes me want to try that strain.

Whoever said that all cubes are the same is crazy!

Congrats on your success. And kudos for bringing back the cake stacking method, it really improves efficiency for space in a fruiting chamber. People are always so skeptical to stack their cakes for so reason, you never see it any pictures.

I'd give you five shrooms but I opted out of the rating system because the assholes in OTD ruined any chance I had of having a rating thats not full of racist and homophobic obscenities.

Once again, beautiful flush!

:congrats:

just reinforcing common knowledge. the first time i handled a cake i was amazed by its durability. i used to think mycelium was delicate and fragile. its not. once established, cubensis is a bruiser. haha yeah i know.

...bruiser...

whats the point in having a humidifier when using perlite??

Perlite will easisly maintain high humidity on its own, running a humidifier runs the risk of water logging your substrate.

what kind ofhumidifier is it looks odd?

I found that my big tub doesn't have the amount of moisture on the walls, with perlite alone, that I want. So I run my ultrasonic on low/medium for 1 hour every two hours, to regulate humidity.

Also, when I take the lid off for FAE every now and then, it helps build humidity up quicker

Of course I'm serious. What do you mean?
The idea is to get as much moisture in the chamber without watering your cakes right??????????

Perlite will have a pretty difficult time filling a chamber with 90% RH without the means of some kind of air circulation. This is one reason why the shotgun is such a great terrarium.

Using that ultrasonic humidifier is going to produce more of a hassle than anything else. They give off TOO much moisture to run them anymore than 5-10 minutes at a given time. Personally, if you are working with a terrarium there's more advantages to a fruiting chamber such as the shotgun.

Also, I like the light sabers above your terrarium : )
