Another traffic ticket
    #10864106 - 08/15/09 09:51 AM (14 years, 7 months ago)

Dickhead cop gave me a ticket because my headlight went out. Youd think that on a friday night in downtown cops would have better things to do than to be handing out tickets for burntout headlights. I wasnt even partying, I was just looking for a 24 hour carwash...

I told him I didnt even know it was out, it must have just gone out, but he says that ignorance isnt an excuse.

So a few questions:

Will this effect my car insurance rates? (Its a fixable violation so I dont think it will, but...)

I went to traffic school a few months back, will this nullify traffic school and thus further mess with my insurance rates? (Again, fixable violation, thus probably no point, but even without the point will it still have any effect on insurance rates?)

What are my chances in court?

Is it much better to do the court thing in person or do written declarations have a worthy chance?

Is night court any different than day court?

It was for a broken headlight so obviously I got the ticket at night.
Is there a better chance he wont show up to the morning court or to night court? Or in these economic times are cops attending all their court dates...?

And does anyone know anything about how it may effect job applications at public service jobs?
Im looking to get into a public service field which is pretty competitive, will this be seen as bull and be forgotten, or will it be another tally mark as to why I shouldnt be hired?

Does anybody else think that cops dont "protect and serve" the way they should? Or at least the way we would expect them to?  :chiefwiggum:

it's not a moving violation so you wont have to worry about
insurance or anything, fix the light, take the receipt in to
court and the judge may waive the fine which is usually minimal

it's just a slogan, we should petition them to change it since
they do neither and it qualifies as false advertising

They protect and serve the interests of their handlers.
Generating revenue is one such interest.

Sounds like a plan. Would a written declaration be a plausible choice or should I just be safe and show up in person?

yeah, you got a fix-it ticket. IT should be no more than $30 total for the ticket itself.

Your insurance rates are fine.

you won't accrue any additional points on your license from this incident.
