Releasing Endorphins
    #10864450 - 08/15/09 12:05 PM (14 years, 6 months ago)

Can anyone here release endorphins by 'tricking' their reward systems? I've wondered.

Sometimes if I just relax every muscle in my body, meditate and have a powerful exhalation, I get a powerful rush of intense sedative relaxation and ease. I can usually do this two or three times, and the flashes are about a second or two each. The feeling is as intense as orgasm, and usually I feel it consistently through the body, but more pronounced in the upper spine. What is it I'm feeling?

I can't speak to what you describe above, but my favorite endorphin releasing trick is eating super hot (spicy, not temp) food. Whenever I skullcap myself with really hot shit (I have a high tolerance so I am talking VERY hot) I feel a pleasant rush afterwards that lingers for some time. I suspect it to be in part endorphin related.

That's true! In fact, there's info on erowid about chili peppers. Chilis are even (apparently) mildly addictive.

OP, you are literally feeling the high of being poisoned by Carbon Dioxide. Of course, it doesn't do much damage, since you can't hold your breath for long enough- just gets you in that meditative state.
